Comments\crits welcome! I know it is 3D, but I would like feedback. This is a simple biped performing a nice bow.

Nice work m8, but I cant help thinking everytime I see a bare basic biped in max moving, that someones just pasted a custom *.bip file into it.

I know yours is purely hand done, I can tell by the motion, but try whacking a model onto the biped mesh, looks a lot more effective mate that just a basic skeleton, belive me.

Time to pimp my 3D anim

Hi there..

GreenPeach: I am sorry it crashed your browser...mine works fine. Does it happen everytime? Thanks for the feedback!

FlushablPet: Ah yes typically I'd prefer to slap a model on the Biped, but I am purposely just sticking to animation, to make sure the motion is believable. The good thing is that I can still save this as a BIP file and put it on a model later.

Yep, it's hand done with FreeForm Mode in Character Studio. Thanks for the comments!

Hey NukleoN, try one with BOTH arms sweeping back. I think it will have more "flourish". I tried it myself, and though I don't know what kind of character this will be, a thirty-year old in sad physical condition doesn't have to brace on his knee to do a deep bow. (That's me!)

I'd love to see one like that.

Great work. Love the gesture of the head at the end.

I would say overall the movement is good. It's nice and fluid and that's really cool. It does seem a bit odd to me that once he bares his weight down in the bow position, he slowly rises again for one final drop. I understand what you were going for and perhaps you might try it with just the upper body using the same timing but with a smaller movment. Also it seems odd that the foot scoots out and rotates outward a little. It seems he would have done that before droping his weight on it. But that's just me.

WIlliam, Blackpool

Hey thanks for the great comments and crits.

William: I think two arms back might be a bit awkward if he's kneeling, tho that would be great if he were standing and bowing deeply. Yeah I sorta liked the head coming up too...this will be followed by him standing up again. Thanks.

Blackpool: Thanks...ya I think I need to smooth out his movement near the end, and have him really plant that weight better on that knee..the foot comes out for adjustment (his left) but I think it sort of looks fussy, so I will either make it super subtle or remove it..plus I plan to add some subtle spine movement the whole way through, and possibly decrease the time between bow and where he looks up again.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Nukleon..

You ever look at any of Victor Navone's stuff? or Thad Clevenger? Victor did the alien singing Gloria Gaynor and Clevenger does the "pete the demon" shorts. They both have a really nice feel for movement. None of that jerky Toy Story stuff. I can't wait for the Final Fantasy movie. The previews make it look worth seeing. I just hope the plot can match the rendering.

Excelcior!
