...been a while! I'm starting a series of dinosaur images, and here's the first. It's about 95% done, so critiques and suggestions are still welcome. The little guys are Troodons that foolishly thought they'd raid a Triceratops nest.

Man this forum has gotten HUGE!

Looks good so far, but I think the head of the Triceratops should be a little bit sharper, just like the dinos in the front.
I think it should look like the dino comes out of a cloud of dirt he whirls up, but the head should stick out more of it, because he is very close to the right dino.
Also something about the Triceratops foot strikes me.

I like the two raptor-like dinos and their facial expressions.

Hope you understand what I mean!

Damn, this is so cool! I love dinosaurs, and your take on these are especially righteous. I think the body of the Triceratops could stand to be sharper, it doesn't fit well with the head. Great work!

Thats sweet!

I'd say lose the Tri tho, cuz the little dude on the left could be warning the other that its his meal.. or something.. I dunno, the Tri doesnt seem to fit in and if you made it detailed like forground it wouldn't look right either... Try some stuff...

Uh hu! make me wait and then you go public with it! I was waiting for the private viewing of this

I like what you're doing with the atmosphere, this is something I haven't seen you do before. With the charging Triceratops and the dust.
Using the dust and softstrokes for the hind parts of the triceratops is a great way of giving the image more depth.
I can see a big change in your style from earlier images. I'm not sure if you noticed it or not, but I really like the way your style is heading towards. Good job.

My only crit is that the troodon on the left, it's head seems to be too flat, both structurally and from a lighting standpoint. look at the lighting you used on the lower jaw and then look at the area above it. Maybe if you could use a lighter tone to bring out some of the area around the eye and on the rim of mouth(upper). You know way more about dino anatomy than me, so maybe their heads are thin like that?

Over all, great job, you should be pleased. and I'm very impressed with the way your style is heading..I'll email you the rest

Thanks for the critiques!
You guys are totally right. I got the same crits from around my office.
The little dinos in the foreground need to match the Tric more. They are scanned in sketches and the pencils are showing too much. It's making them look too flat, and cut-out looking. Another thing I need to do is lighten the dino on the right a tad, so that it increases the distance between the two. I'm going to work on it tonight, then I'll post the results.
Thanks again every one!

I would put more tones in the dust. Use some of the whites and browns that you have in the forground (maybe blues too), very subtlely, to create some form and depth to that atmosphere. Cool dinos.

There seems to be a sharp delineation between the clear air around the egg-snatchers and the dust cloud around the 'tops. With atmospheric perspective, it's the layers that make the difference. The back end of the farthest snatcher should be toned the same as the front end of the 'tops. Increase the range of the "fog" to include a greater range of visibility. Sharpen up the details in the Triceratop's horns, as they are closer and in front of his dust cloud.

Kewl image, nonetheless.
