I like this... you've achieved that charcoal "look" quite nicely. One question: Did you create your own brushes?

As a newbie to these forums, I figured I should jump right in and show you all what I'm currently playing around with.

Digital Charcoal Portrait

I'm really interested in getting photoshop to emulate natural media - especially since my copy of painter doesn't seem to like my win2000 set up here at work...

And, of course, any and all comments, suggestions, etc. are very welcome.

Thanks, guys. As for the brushes I used - that pic was done mostly with the standard 20 pixel light pastel and thin pencil brushes that ship w/ Photoshop 6.

However, I did block in a lot of the background with a customized version of the 64 pixel light pastel brush. If memory serves, I added a noise filter to it, and set the pressure to 10% or so.
