Hmmm. When I paint my pics on my good computer the colours look brighter and richer, but when I see the pic on the monitor I'm on right now, it looks drab and washed out.

Any other crit welcome, I really need it.

The colors look fine to me, but then again, it's hard to tell what they're "supposed" to look like. Are you viewing the pic in photoshop, or netscape, or what? You might have a weird color profile set up in photoshop... Also, try comparing some other peoples' pics between the two computers, and see if there's much of a difference. It's probably just the monitor, but you never know.

As far as other crits go... I think the perspective is way off on the green blocky things that go over the guy's shoulders. Also, his right shoulder has some perspective issues of its own. We really shouldn't be seeing more than an inch of his shoulder from this angle, but you've got it going way off the page.

Otherwise, the face and the chest look fine.

I'm not sure what it is, but it might be my colour profiles set up, thanks for that. Either way I'm going to try looking at my pics from various other computers this week for comparison. And thanks for the crit, it REALLY helped, I never noticed those perspective errors.

Here is an update. I decided to change the design because of the buggy perspective. Made the pic wider too. Hope it looks better.


BTW - Should I continue with the sword or just scrap it? It was an experimental thing.

Hi. Looks MUCH better, but I think the perspective is still a bit funky. (not nearly as bad as before, though.)

The main problem now is that the center of his chest plate doesn't line up with his shoulders. If you pick any point on one shoulder, and line it up with the matching point on the other shoulder, you'll get a straight line across the picture. But if you look at the center mark of his chest plate, it's angling way up to the left.

The other thing is that you're still seeing way too much of his right shoulder. (this is something I'm really bad at myself.) You drew the shoulder bands as big on the left as on the right, when the ones on his right should be much smaller due to perspective and foreshortening. Look at yourself in the mirror a bit from this angle, and really pay attention to how much of each shoulder is visible, and how far out it sticks. (maybe even put a piece of paper on each shoulder. ) Do a couple sketches, then come back to this, and you should be able to fix the problems in no time.

Oh, and one other thing that comes in really useful when you're having trouble seeing your mistakes... Try flipping the image horizontally. You'll see it in a whole new light.

Hey Milkman, thanks for all your great support lately I've been drawing for quite a while. As for colour/paint, most of my works were typical 'airbrush linework' (IE, a Dhabih wannabe) type stuff and I really just didn't like it. I tried a bit of painting back in sept-0ct 2000 but I really didn't like it and it just wasn't doing anything for me.
After that I just had a huge slump and just drew with pencil a lot. Hardly ever visted the forums (visiting the forums is like the 'theory' part of art for me) and pretty much couldn't see myself developing at all.

I was lucky to get some free figure drawing lessons about a month or two ago and I was very geared towards the whole 'linework/manga' thing again. But then just the other day I woke up and all of a sudden it all 'clicked' after about a 4 month slump. I think I was just really pissed off at not moving anywhere with my art. Well, there you have it
