DG.. I like the image good layout. give the image some flat colour not that it will end up being that colour, but will set it up for better crits. Let us know that the flat colour is intentional. |

Dark Goth, I think basement means that he'd like to see you cover the whole image with basic colours. No highlighting or shading. Just the plain colours or colour scheme you intend for the image.
Your method of working is to focus on one certain area and work that same area until it is finished (with shades, highlights, darks, lights etc).
It'd help to crit the image if you worked the whole image to similar detail levels consistently as you go.
Keep going and post up any new progress. |

Sorry Darkgoth sometimes I think that I am illiterate. Light-ning is a tough one, I myself have not mastered yet. Painting a keyboard is quite intracate.
-First choose a perspective that you want and create a rectangular prism(the basic shape)
-then on a new layer paint one key being sure that it is in the same perspective as the prism. (if needed paint more variant ones to match the keyboard).
With that in place duplicate the layer several times till you have enough to have the keys for the keyboard. place them in the correct places and woola!
oh! When doing this maybe do it in a new image on a larger scale and evvery once and a while zoom out to ensure that it looks good.
I hope that explanation doesn't seem elemantary, but that is how I would approch it.
One other comment is light-ning perhaps is not the way to go. I think it would be cool if you had several lighting sources like glowing spheres, kinda like Jubilee from the X-men.
When I said Flat Colour I was refering to laying down a basic palatte of colour rather than going into detail right a way so that when you look at it you can gain a general feeling for it.
I hope I don't sound harsh? I really like it and looking forward to seeing more of it.
JasonN- thanks for clearing that up for me. |

Hey Base, you're not coming off as harsh at all. Good advice, especially since knowing what the foundation colors are going to be will help determine how to incorporate the lightning.
Typically for lightning I would say to start with some thick-to-variable line width laying out the path of the lightning fingers with a dark blue/purple. Then get closer to the hot white center with lighter shades of blue/purple/violet. The 'Sijun.com Forums' logo up there ^ has a similar effect. Notice how the blues and violets meet at the hot white point? Hope that helps some. |

lol thanks. Good idea on the keyboard, didn't think of doing that. The one key and duplicating it. As for the Light-NING I've killed that idea. Piece is nearly done, maybe a couple more days. As for "flat" color, yah, I usually do that- I tend to focus on one area though cause I get bored and focus on another area. Just all depends on my mood. As for balls of light, planned on it- but the "effect" I'm using instead of the light-Ning might not work well with balls of light.... We shall see, haven't gotten to that part yet. lolol btw, any ideas on shading blue jeans? I did blue jeans before in colored pencil on paper but for some reason, not coming out right airbrushing it on the computer. lololol. And no, you weren't harsh at all. I was just confused the first time. lmao. |
