This is a color sketch for a painting I'm doing. I was going to try to get some feedback before starting the final, but as the forums were down, and I'm 'in the zone' I've started on the painting:
(just basic forms for now)
The colors are unfortunately a little dull and it's a bit too bright, but that's just a screen thing. It's proofing out fine at this stage.
Before I get myself in too deep though, is there anything that a fresh pair of eyes like yours can see looks wrong, or could be improved? I've been looking at this thing for so long now that I'm jaded, and I don't trust my own perception.
Thanks for your time and help,

Great! Looking forward to the finished version. Just one quick comment and I guess you already saw this problem - anyway... The third man from the left is troubeling the perspective. he is drawn in same hue and saturation as the rest of the bad gang but smaller, which leads the viewer to think he's a midget or something and placed in the foreground like the two other guys...
Keep it up!

for someone like myself who is not well versed in painter, do you think you could write up quickly the process you used for the sketch? |

wow that is class RD! excellent composition and action. I really love the top one as it is even with the sketchy lines, still looks a finished style, and has a great flow. Painting over it could easily stiffen it up, IMO it honestly doesn't need anymore.. If I had to crit, maybe the gal could have some more bum ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

I'm with mutok, I'd love to see what you did to get to this point. Also, for that third guy, would you derease saturation and darken the value? (new to seeing the world in color).
Thanks |

Thanks for the replies guys - it looks like I'm on the right track. Thankyou so much for the tip BooMSticK - that's just the sort of thing I'm starting to miss by looking at this too much.
As for those who like the sketch best - well, frankly so do I at this point. Unfortunately, it just doesn't have the level of finish I'm after. I'm going to try to keep as much freshness as I can in the final painting. Hopefully I'll be able to use the sketch as a stepping stone and push the painting further without stiffening it up too much.
The initial sketch wasn't created in Painter, but Photoshop. I merely scanned in my pen roughs and splashed some quick colour in, so I could work out what look I wanted to give the actual painting. So far, most of my forays into Painter have ben from pretty good reference, so I wanted to work out as much as I could with this one before I started the final.
It's taking longer than I expected to work it up in Painter. One of the pitfalls of working hi-res I guess.
Ok, so, fix up the color perspective, and maybe give the lass a bit more ass. Any more tips or suggestions? |

More ass. Defenitly more ass
Other than that it's just great. A few small (very small) things come to mind: The muzzle flash looks like it's an effect pasted on the picture.
The three shell casings in the sketch are to probably close, and the arc they are describing is to puny. Those things are thrown pretty far.
Again these are tiny, minor things. It's a great pic

Thanks HardCoil, I didn't notice that, but now you've pointed it out...
All these 'tiny, minor' suggestions are great. It keeps me from picking up on them when it's too late. Keep 'em coming!
As for RRoam's comment, that's one of the things I like about the image - the ambiguous morality. At first you assume the galls the 'hero' of the scene, but what about the fact that she's gunning down unarmed men? I like it. It keeps you thinking. |
