Ok this is my pride and joy of the last few weeks, Its NOT DONE, soon there will be a nice render suitable for a wall paper and a 30 second animation clip for my reel. However as of right now I want perfection, so please annihilate it. and enjoy.

This puppy was modeled in 3DS MAX 4, using NURMS (subdivided polygons), I used Deep Paint and Photoshop for textures.

thats a sweet model. is deepaint that useful? i saw an add for it once but im poor so i probably wont ever get it. i think theres nothing wrong with the model at all, but he could look a little more evil. unless your going for a semi evil demon.

Looks coo... but something about that metal.. think it might be too shiny. and maybe make some nicks and scratchs in it... it looks too new to me. Maybe some blood. I think those little imperfections really add realism to a piece.

Snow, Yes deeppaint helps because as long as you have good texture cordinates deep paint is like having photoshop with your model in the window. I will say that I still do most of my texture work in the regular photoshop window.

I will look into tweaking the metal, and possibly adding more skin blemishes especially on the chest..

thanks for the tips, keep em coming

Yes im a freshman here at Scad.

Tyler could you give me a link to Deep Paint? I've been looking for a good way to texture my model, is that a free plugin? Thanks!

2 crits, if he has facial hair, dont u think he'd have eyebrows? eyebrows could add to the evil look.

Also the one with his mouth open, personally, i imagine demons to be able to open their mouths alot wider than that for some reason...just looks wrong to me.

The material looks a bit plasticy to me. Probably just Max's default specular highlights. Try giving it a reflection map and turning the specular highlights all the way down - also, don't use a pure white light for the highlights. It just looks wrong, especially in this scene.

Also, you may want to give your bump map an alpha channel - that way, you can mimic the effects of dirt and smudges on the metal (IE parts that are less reflective.)

Otherwise, the model and texture map look great. It's just the default max material stuff that could use some tweaking.
