Just thought you guys might want to look over and comment about these pics.
http://www.httpcity.com/peter82/Peru.html
They're from my Peru sketchbook and are in a similar vein to the original of this:
[imghttp://www.httpcity.com/peter82/Archives/tapircolor.jpg[/img]
I'm planning to try and color them all in time but if anyone else wants to I'm happy to host their images and give full written credit on the site.
Oh yeah and sorry the sites so crappy it's just there to put the images up. |

I'll try and answer a few things and explain others - first of all the first pic - it's a Tapir by the way - big hippo like thing with an anteateresque head that came swiming towards me grunting and groaning whilst I was in a low canoe watching Kayman (little crocs) - and yes it is dodge and burn and I'm trying to get used to using the tools like I would conventionally actully blending colors rather than just darkening and lightning areas of color.
As for the texture... well there's a good reason for throwing that on - well it's sort of a good reason - it hides the flaws in the pic where the edges are too blurry and the like this is hidden by the texture - looks okay in the first pic I think where it's subtle but yeah the second one's cakky.
Thanks for your confidence and help Eshara and Aquamire.
Oh yeah and I'm using a mouse too - boo-hoo! Time to save I think! |

I love the animal. You did a great job.
I can't make out the other one though, the filter is to strong. is that a rock house?
I would lower the opacity of the filter a lot more. It kind of takes away from the picture itself when its so strong.
Great job though. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Is the texture of the paper real, or was that a filter? If it was a filter, then you need to tone that down. It really does mute the painting.
Second of all, are you using dodge and burn tools on the first pic? It kind of looks that way, but I might be wrong. If your kinda new to digital art, stay away from those tools unless your an expert and know their flaws.
The second pic looks great with the rocks, however I think your smoothing things to much. Try using harder edges. Rocks arent fluffy pillows, now are they? Try to think of the surface of the object your painting, as you paint it.
They look great tho, dont get me wrong. Keep working at it.
