This is an technique experiment. Like the old masters did when they painted their oilpaintings. You start out with a base colour (most of the time a red-brownish colour) and then do the outlines (nowdays, if you want, you can take a photograph copy it to a transparent sheet and then project it on the canavas with an overhead machine). When you've done that you paint the values. White as brightest and the background colour as the darkest. When you've finished that you go on and colour it. I don't know it's english translation but in swedish it's called "Skikt mleri". I'm sure someone can translate it if there is any interest.

The reason I'm trying this is because I'm doing the same thing IRL in my oilpainting lessons. So I want a grasp of the process (since I missed the lecture where the teacher showed a video and explained how it's done).

Right now I'm finished with the values. And no, I don't think I'll put in any background. Since I'm not consentrating on making a nice composition as much as grasping the process.

But constructive critique is very welcome!

Yeah thats a fun technique. I really like your values right now. The design is really cool, got a great character to it, but it almost seems like he might fall on his face, but I kinda like that. it adds more tension to his stance.

Yeah, I know about his stance, but I kinda like it too. Looks like he is weighting back and forth on his heels. Also the right hand (Our POV) is a little off. It got no wrist. But redoing that would mean repainting atleast the bottom part of the arm. So I won't. :/
Also, if you look really close (this is the original res by the way) you can see that I where getting kinda tierd when I worked on the shoes and the left hand (still from our POV). But the fun thing is that I like that hand the best.

Oh well, I'll get back to adding some colour. Thanks for your crit.
