For starters, I think this jelly fish needs "real" water. It is dark plain background, that don't give me the feeling of the fish actually beeing in water. Make it a bit brighter, and maby some bubbles or something. For starters I think that will make the picturer more "real". I think you have a nice start. What prog are u using?

Much better. The background looks realy good. arniemg have a point when he wants to see more jelly fish. I wouldn't care so much about how it looks, but adding some details, would make the pic look better. How did you make the bubbles. I think xfenox or eye candy has a realy good bubbel filter. Would make them look more "photo realistic". Not that it matters. They look realy good.
Summary: Give more details on the jelly, and maby make it shine a bit on the left top of the jelly, using the dodge tool. I would suggest using a blue color when you add details.
Just some suggestions. Keep up the good work!

Hey there PixelPusher,
I digitally painted some Jellyfish in Photoshop a few months ago and posted the piece in the Finished forum. I used video footage I shot in Omaha and Maui as reference, as well as some photos.
Here is the small size image.
A link to the 1024 x 768 version:

This is going to sound odd, but my major in college was Enviromental Fine Art. The original jellyfish tentacles in this thread are way too straight & too thick. The one done at the bottom are too thick as well, and a little too wild. The two jellyfish seem like they are in a torrent of water to me. Any way, that's my 2 cents.
Peace,

I did this really quick to try and help you out. I know it sucks, and it's small but I really didn't want to spend more than 10 or so minutes on it. Maybe you could add some more bright white ir high saturation colors to give it more of an illuminated effect? I think the light green at the top is a little distracting too. Maybe give the bg an all-over dark blue/green shader with wavy variations in color here and there. The increase in contrast with the darker bg will help make the jellyfish look like it's glowing. I think that also like others have suggested, more of them will look really cool.
Great subject matter. Jellyfish are nifty little things

Jezebel, very nice indeed. I like the luminescent feel to your Jellyfish. My piece was more a concentration on the flowing brushstrokes I wanted to practice, so I chose Jellyfish as the subject. I've always wanted to paint them. My wife and I have seen some really neat ones and this was my first go at them. I hope our pieces help PixelPusher. I know yours will for certain. I look forward to painting more myself.
