Very nice improvement! Second sketch really shows pencil exploration (I hope that makes sense!)

Pencil exploration..? sounds dodgy...
*ahem* enough of the antics.
Definite improvement in the second, apart from the obvious medium change, the perspective issues are good. eg the way the shoulder is obscured behind the breast and the limp wrist/hand.
I see improvement. |

Sorry to be that -one- person, but I really like the forlorn, bedraggled look about the first one.
That said, I love the pose in the second one... I actually like both positions of the arm. I wouldn't say one is better than the other, they're both great, in their own special way. Which you end up with depends what feeling you're going for, I suppose. |

Every few months or so, I put away some 2-minute sketches, just so I can look back and see what I've improved since last time & what I still need to work on. So, these are two sketches of 2 minutes or less, pen and ink, the first drawn 6 months ago, the second last night. (I know there will probably be that -one- person who insists that the old one is better. But from my point of view, it isn't. I'm having more fun now. Note, in the new one, that I drew the right arm twice, to try different positions...It's only a sketch, so I can do this kind of thing...Whee! Fun! Yay.) Okay. End moment of manic mirth. The images:
OLD: NEW:
I might do more with the new sketch. Haven't decided yet.

AAAAAAAAND....
'E lives in a council flat!
Hey, I made up a joke:
Q: Why don't goths go to McDonald's?
A: They might get a HAPPY MEAL!
Heh, heh, heh. |

I agree the first is more pleasing, but they are nothing alike. Have you thought about drawing the same type of thing six months apart. As potentially stupid as that sounds, you would compare the before and after much better this way (imho)
