here is one of the images that I am doing for my lecture at the Game Developers conference later this month. I am doing these, recording scripts for all of them, and then discussing character design and how to take it from a pencil sketch to a full blown color drawing. Clients like that sort of thing. Anyway, it isn't quite done but I am not too ashamed to show it.

Your style feels very similar to Simon Bisleys work. You have a fantastic sense of depth and he has a lot of character.

The work on your site is amazing.

Haha.. Green eyes and orange belly button hair, my kind of midget! I love this picture because I once took a class where we had to do self portraits and a friend of mine made his portrait with green eyes. After a whole lot of yelling he was made to paint over it and when it was exibited in a show he named it The instructer made me paint over the green eyes. This story probably isn't that intresting but your picture is.

The only things that are bugging me is his right hand looks too huge to his left, and maybe there could of been more difference in the materials, like a more reflective helmet for example.. also the wood coming out of the hammer looks at the wrong angle if it is going right thru it.. Apart from that you can see it was done in a pretty fast and loose style which is nice and I do like the overall look of the character, vry nice work

Hoo ha, great work! Too nice for me to comment on Seeg! Cept it looks more like a dwarf than a viking...which was the problem with my dwarf from a long while ago. He looked more like a viking than a dwarf... http://www.bamboozled.org/marvin/archive/gimli.jpg

Excellent as usual, Don. I'd hate to see what lies below that belly...:/

My only comment/suggestion, along with what's already been stated, would be to drop his left hand down a bit or lift his shoulder. They seem to too... I'm fumbling for words. Adding background between the two I think (IMO) would add more depth and drama to the piece and convey that much more emotion...

Nice horns!

Damn, and yet another reason for me to lament being unable to attend the GDC this year, heh. I shoulda talked my company into sending me down there

Looking good so far, the only place that bothers me at moment is the area concerning the left hand, hammer head and shaft...they all look outta kilter with each other. The left hand just doesn't appear to be holding the handle and it seems like the tip extruding from the head should be more elliptical to indicate the angle that it's being held at. Cool design though, can't wait to see the updates.

Thanks for all the comments, they are good ones. I will fix all the bugs. I haven't gotten around to it yet because I am redoing my site but I will. I will be speaking the first session Thursday the 22nd I think. I'd have to look it up at work.

Oh I remember now, I saw some of your work at 3dpalette, excellent, although I can't see this pic right now.
I was devastated to see your Tutorial section not working on your site, but I understand you're re-doing it, good luck with that.

Nice image Don. I can't make it to GDC, which is a shame because I would have liked to meet you.

Actually, I have several that are much tighter that I am showing. One is the image that I am developing a painting skin tutorial for. After the conference I will post everything on my site.

Looking good Don.
I can't wait to see the updated version of your site.

On another note, I've tried downloading the Painter brushes from the files section of your site, but as I'm on a Mac, I haven't been able to use them. Is there any chance you might consider posting the brush varient values?

Nice. Great painting. The Hand size difference has been noted...not sure whether it matters, although I'd make the hands the same size.

Alot of the picture seems slightly out of focus, almost like you're using the camelhair brush with a faded edge or the bristle brush. It would be nice if there were some sharper edges on the sledgehammer....glints of light on the sharp rocky surface.
