Hi all,

This is my first attempt at colouring a pencil sketch digitally, and was my first attempt to use photoshop for anything serious, so please be gentle. I know there is still lots to do, but any general newbie advice would be appreciated.

The image has a lot of potential... it looks good already, but the shadow areas look a bit pale (gray-ish). I think you should add some red/brown to 'em. Good job otherwise!

Thanks for the comments thus far...I've uploaded my day's work. I've tried to add more colour, warming the shadows up and making the whole thing a little less grey.

The legs originally were that short on paper because of size restrictions...it never really dawned on me that I don't have to follow those restrictions here. I think I'll adjust that, as I've always thought they should be longer too.

Looks great, keep that brush moving and post an update too, please

One thing to point out is that I'd picture the nymph with a bit more natural makeup... I'm not sure though, I've never met one either!

Are her legs supposed to be that short?

Oooh, very nice. Her face seems a bit bubbly though. And yea, the leg looks a bit short, even though they are fading into the tree(they look a bit clipped?).

Yeah, it's starting good :p Anatomically slightly strange around the neck or under her arms but I've never met woodnymphs mind you :p
I was a bit surprised too not to find longer legs/trunk when I scrolled down but hey, you're the driver :) I've got a question though, are the grey patches for example on her right shoulder shadows of leaves above her ? Ah, one more thing, I've always felt it easier to start painting on an already coloured background, I mean with the basic light and dark colours, to help the figure blending in it... Just 2 cents (I accept visa card) Keep on posting the work in progress , I really like your art (and web site :))

good drawing technique. a suggestion - do a dark line drawing then fill in the whole picture with light color washes....then start to go into the details.

Thanks for the comments...I'll use that wash idea for future drawings I have in the works. I've posted an updated version up top...I've extended the image to make more room for the legs.
I think I know what you mean about the 'bubbly' face Ewok...I think I might just live with it though. I feel like I just want to get this one finished and on to the next one.
