Alrighty, this is my first digital painting. I know, the face is fucked right now, but I will fix that later. What I am really am concerned with: How does one achieve very smooth gradients with PS painting?
Are there any tricks or something to get smooth gradients or will I have to take the acrylics route and paint a billions of half tones until it looks relatively smooth?
Any advice how to shade something like her is greatly appreciated:

you can try the blur tool or maybe smudge.
if you have a wacom activate pressure sensitivity and use low opacity brushes. |

Thanks for the replies. I think I know what you mean, Surferboi, but what is "stylus" opacity?
Nex, yeah, I played around with smudge, though that didn't really give me what I wanted, gotta try blur though. [btw, I have a wacom]

The tool you're looking for is the "Just Add Water" tool in painter. It will blend the way want it to.
