I'm having a hard time deciding on a pose for the next picture I'm planning to do. The idea is a pic of a guitarist (going for classic rock style) on stage, probably doing a solo.
Here are four position ideas I came up with.
Which one should I go with? or any suggested variations? I may start from scratch for the final, or at least I'll expand the canvas. Crits/comments welcome too. (remember these are pretty rough done for pose ideas.)
Thanks -JK

Thanks for the comments, keep 'em coming
I was thinking one leg on amp for #2
I was also thinking eyes closed on all of them. (so if it looks like he's looking at his fingers on a couple he isn't)
Now that I look, I think the guitar is at too much of an angle for a guitar focused pic in #3, I really liked the guitar shadow on the body on that one though.
Looking at these I felt I had to put them together in one Andy Warhol-esque picture.
(Just for a little fun, still planning on doing one of these into a detailed picture!)

Wow, nice !!!!!!!!! They almost look like photos !! Good job. You really know your anatomy and lighting and pose and perspective on the guitar!!!
Either that, or you just painted over 4 digital pictures. |

I wish I had a digital Camera
You are correct that they didn't come straight out of my mind, they're drawn in photoshop using paused video as reference. I almost always use at least some reference, in some form or another, seems natural to me. They really aren't that great lighting and anatomy wise, and if they look it it's just because they are so rough. I guess if they really do look kinda photo-like that's a good thing Maybe I'll do another and save the step by step.
Back on topic: which pose(s) do you think would work best?
[edit]
"final"/step6
The steps.
1. Fill with Brown
2. Block in the guy
3. Block in Guitar & strap
4. Add shading
5. Refine shading and add rough "detail"
The palette was chosen by hand for the first one I did, then mainly I used the dropper on a "finished pic" when making more pics.

I'll chime in for number four, also. I think it's interesting without looking too much like "I'm posing just because guitar players are supposed to pose."

Thanks everybody for the replies
Number four it is then. I spent a little time and added a rythm guitarist in the background and just out of the spotlight.
This is my composition idea so far. I'm thinking maybe a rooftop for the background, with a few buildings sticking up over it and a night sky with some stars & clouds. Not sure if it's the best fit, but I wanted a simple dark background that I could work with, and that's what popped into mind. I'm pretty sure I'll go with the night sky part at least, that seems like a good way to leave to some background simple black
(Looks a little funny now since the foreground guitarist the focus, is so undetailed)
After I get the background blocked in I'll try my best to fix everything that looks wrong with form and lighting & tighten up the outlines. Then start adding some detail. Maybe on the weekend I'll have some time to really work on it.

Well, since this thread is already here and still on the first page, I'll post the near finished version of this work here too. (Also in Gallery/Finished work).
