This one was based on a smudgy sketch I posted in the finished work gallery raelier...
I'm having problems with the shadows from the "roof" that are projected onto the wall...I don't know If the shadows should look like that, and I also wanted the wall behind the robot to be lighter so U can se the shape of the robot more clearly, but how can I do that when I put dark shadows back there!?
I don't know bout the lens flare, but I looked into a lamp with my eyes half shut and that kinda was what I saw...hehe
This painting reminds me so much of all the stuff craig M has done...Maybe I'm steeling stuff from him without thinkin?? =(
well I'm gonna let u guys crit this one before I continue with it...thanx M8hts

You could put the light source higher. It makes the shadows on the wall stretch... and most of the shadows would be projected onto the floor.

This piece just keeps moving along. Let me start by saying it's pretty awesome. On this version, there are a couple of things that stand out though. While I like the lensflare, it is an awfully weird one. In particular, the vertical band in the middle looks added on and not as "mechanical" as the rest of the flare. Also, while it is likely the girders across the top of the image would cast soft shadows, the smooth airbrushing on the right wall severly contrasts the rugged brushwork on the left. Maybe you could dab some paint to give a little depth to the airbrushed shadows? Just a thought.

Wow, that's amazing work. I absolutely love it.
One thing about the shadows, your shadows almost look darker and sharper further away from the ceiling. I would think that the shadows would be sharper right near the object casting them, then get extremely soft and blurry at the bottom of the wall where they are quite far from the casting object.
[edit]And I'm fairly sure that if it's a square room, left-right shadows from the ceiling would be horizontal along the plane of the wall they hit instead of diagonal? Hmm... it's hard to talk 3D in words, often hard for me to think out things 3D too [/edit]
(Didn't expect to find a much sharper and further along version of a work I saw in the finished gallery in the Work in Progress section )

Maybe this comment will be vain, but in my eyes the gun of the robot is slightly weird. In the topmost pipe at the head of the gun seems twisted little, like it points down. The two others are just like they should be. But this is all in my eyes.

Dangit, capt. How are we ever supposed to be this good?
Binke: Your lovestruck robot is hilarious. It looks like it's confused by these feelings it has for the other robot. You captured that pose perfectly. |

Like the style (looks like craigs massive robot guy or the one on his oni pics) but I think it lacks impact, maybe due to the fact it looks big but not heavy and powerful but has kinda feeble weapons. look at craigs (again ) and try to get the same feeling.

Dammit Capn' Looked at this and soiled my underoos. Came back and looked at the revision and did it again. At this rate I'll have none left. I can't remark on this cause I'm too dumbstruck to see anything wrong.
I don't see how you all do it. I've tried and tried to rack my skull to even begin something mechanical. Where does it come from? I can't even model an arm much less a whole body. Can you or anyone else tell me where in my brain this stuff lies if it even does? I to the point of giving up all together and that would be a sad day indeed.
Beautiful work per usual CFG.

thanx for crits dudes/dudettes
I'm workin on it right now...but I'll post the next version in the finished gallery...
budoka...Dammit you're right! It does remind me of that robot you're talking about! I didn't use it as a reference though.
I think you said that the weapons looked uhm "unpowerful" ? I don't feel like adding missiles and more gunz on him, too much...that's what I think =/ |

I tried a little repaint, here are the things I think needed a revamp:
1: Highlights of the robot's yellow light. I added some yellowish lights on the gun, as well as the left knee. Since we're getting almost blinded by it, it should be much more powerful.
2: Highlights from the sky. The sky is very blue and strong, so I think the faces of the robot facing the sky should require more bluish light.
3: Dark spots on the robot weren't dark enough, I think .. So I added some 0,0,0 black to see how it came out and it's pretty neat. I understand that there are light bounce, but in those little tight secluded areas of the robot, light doesn't go far..
4: Perspective on the robot's "face" also.. This is a test again, tell me what you think of it, CaptainFlushyFlush.

eheheh... as usual a-la craig styled work
i think there is a little problem with perspective at bg... i'm not sure yet maybe you've special lens type here... and you need to do something with flare - now it looks more like a bullet impact.
neat stuff - keep 'em coming.

Snakey: I think your overpaint looks good, except for the darkening of the shadows. It makes it look smaller, due to the fact that there's not as much atmosphere between the mech and the viewer. Otherwise, the highlights look pretty good. |
