I'm trying to start up a little web-comic with another guy I know online, and so far this is what I've come up with. This is his caricature, which he says is VERY close to his likeness. Of course, the tricky part of that is I have never seen him, only gone by descriptions. Anyway, I have already picked out every major flaw (hands, arms, minor details, scaling problems, the legs, etc).. But tell me what you see that I might have missed... Ivey and Penny-Arcade have been some of my biggest influences on this.

Holy sweet mother of God, that's a good looking fellow. Look out, ladies.
-Evil
...Yes, I registered just to say that.

Well, that was productive. Anyway, here is my second character. Tell me what you think. I was just goofing around with coloring, I don't plan on doing much shading or anything, at least not until I can pencil and ink the characters faster. Any suggestions/crits?

So why give it the name Evil when he is wearing White and Blue huh? Just curious. |

OK, here's version 2.0 of the first drawing. I approached this one differently in hopes if getting SOME kind of response.
I'm still trying to develop my style, so please tell me how you like this. I'm enjoying the direction it's going, but I feel like it still needs something. |

Whoah, the 3rd guy! Looks like some psycho maniac..maybe that's the impression you get from chatting to unknown strangers online. Muahaha the second one is so funny...the lightsabre there just cracks me up..sorry. I really like the style man. I think it'd make a great comic piece. Also good expressions.
Oh, I like the top two styles better than the third. Looks sorta like the "Clerks" cartoon.

Actually, that's what I was going for.. I didn't think the first two looked "extreme" enough, and I wasn't happy with how they turned out. They were too midget-like, and they just never worked for me. I like the third one because I feel like I handled the proportions better, and it has a more 'evil' feel to it. He's SUPPOSED to look kind of insane, that's part of the character. The first one didn't give that impression in my opinion. The second one I'm semi-ok with, but I want to convert it to the style in the latest pic. I'm just not happy with the short characters. I've noticed there hasn't been any real comments about anything like perspective or proportion; am I getting those things fairly right, or is it so bad that I shouldn't even worry about that stuff yet? |
