I'd say this is about two-thirds done right now . . . I still have stuff I want to add, like sagebrush, birds, and a small structure, as well as additional detailing on the utility poles. I'm unsure about the size/placement of the cinder block. The final composition may end up being flipped.
Any and all feedback is appreciated.
The piece was modeled and rendered in Hash A:M, and lit by hand (no GI or radiosity). All of the textures are algorithmic, no image maps were used. The final render will be smoother and less grainy (and twice as large).

I love it, and I think the block adds a lot of realism, I would consider leaving the block or adding a can or plastic from a six-pack... |

It looks very good. Nice lighting and material selection. Keep it up. |

Lookin good Brian! Each version keeps getting better and better, though flipping it turns it into almost a completely different piece.

Yeah . . . I keep mirroring it every other revision, to keep my eye fresh . . . I hate finishing a piece and then not being able to really see it like a new viewer would. |

MMmm... yummy. Looking good Brian.
My only comment is on the block. Maybe it's the angle or maybe it's the size; it looks kinda big to my eye. It might be that the cinder block is too "stubby". I've modelled a number of stills in A:M before as well (I'm ruined for any other 3D software now!) and, depending on the camera angle, I've had to rework some models because the distortion of the lens made them appear "less realistic". I know mathmatically they were correct, but somehow they didn't *look* right. I mention this, because minute changes in scale helped some of my pieces a lot. Just a thought.
BTW, you've got to be crazy going with 100% algorithmic textures --your test renders must take ages. I use decals just to speed the process up.

I like this a lot, but I think that maybe the photographic/grainy noise is a bit much. If it were toned down a little I think this would look better. Good work as is though.
Edit: Oops, sorry, you said it would be less grainy. What a genius I am.

I really like the mood and the distant lights.. One thing bugs me a little but maybe it's just me.. shouldn't the second pole be a tad longer, I mean going down a little bit more ? maybe it would enhance the depth of the scene.. dunno.. Anyway, great and subtle job ! *gawks*

Good feedback guys, thanks . . . just FYI, the image will be broken for a few hours while Billy relocates our webserver, so if you're getting a red "x", try back later.
Pat: my test renders take about eight hours on a 700 MHz Athlon with 512 megs of RAM.
