What a lot of people do is to use the paintbrush tool with a hard-edged brush, start by blocking in the major light/dark areas, then keep refining until you're done. You can also start with a quick line-art sketch in photoshop (or scanned), then paint on top of that using roughly the same method.
Just play around with it, see what works best for you, and post the results. I'm sure you'll get plenty of pointers. |
