I'm really excited to add my tinkerings here. Morgonak is a character I'm playing in a D&D group. What's cool about him is that he's half troll half human. Hence his monsterous features.
I'm gonna do more, so here's the whole thing:

Hey ewooz!
I'm an RPer as well, so I constantly do portraits of my character or other's characters. I think this one is great! Especially his hair... It looks sweet. You might want to "join" the hair more to his scalp at the hairline by doing some light feather strokes.
I can't wait to see the finished version... especially what you might put in the background. Cool |

I dunno why i type comments here, since
i sit 2 feet away from you, hehe.(He's a new Innerloop guy)
I like it and i especially like the way you started on it. The colours look great.
My only crit would be to try and flip it once in a while in order to get the proportions more correctly placed. The ear
could maybe be bigger too, maybe exaggerate the teeth more, but that's just my taste and
since you designed the character you know best
Oh, and welcome to the forum!

hey bjornar,
nice to see you're posting Well, I'm a bit more allowed to answer, since I sit two floors away, hehe.
I think it looks really nice, I like the colors a lot. I don't know if you think I'm wrong, but your skills has improved a lot allready since you started here, do you agree ?
One think you could try to make the shading more interessting is to improve the use og hard and soft edged shading and shadows.

Hey. Thanks for the input Micke and Joachim As much as I respect your skills I am flattered that you like my work. Yep, Joachim it helps doing concepts for a week. This environment that Innerloop offers has boosted my inspiration and drawing milage immensly. I hope I'm only at the beginning of the artistic improvement curve.
Hybrid thanks, I'll fix the hairline issue. Any ideas for the background? I'll continue on it later tonight. Expect a swift update, since I want this project out of the world sooner than later. |

you might consider putting a bit of shadow on the outside edge of his face to give his head more volume. I looks a little flat right now.

welcome ewooz,
my only crit would be that I thought that lip with the fangs coming from the top was the top lip. the best way to fix that would be to bring the hair the is below the lip up to the lip itself.... that way it will look more like a bottom lip...
thats my 2 cents.. hope it helps..

Maybe some gnarly trees in the background with a dusky sunset palette of colors (since you went with warm shades on the figure)?
Just a thought. |

Ok, I have fixed my drawing. I followed your guys advice, and yes Awetopsy I agree about the bottom lip thing so I tried to improve that as well.

Thats it... Excellent. looking really good!!
you have an amazing amount of detail in the hair.. now you need to make a clearer distinction between the chest and sleeve of the cloth. the way it is now it kinda looks like its just a weird drape over the arm but going down the chest and it doesnt look quite right. almost looks like a pancho. (from top of arm - up that is)
hope that helps.

it looks to me like gravity isn't being applied to his hair. Maybe it shouldnt be quite so angled, but more straight down.
I took bo staff lessons once. I nearly killed myself.
Looks really good! |
