Ok
I just started this 3o minutes ago, and decided..since I never bother giving a proper tutorial when I`m done with something, I`ll try during, and maybe even finish;-)

Image 1&2: This is not my normal way of doing things, but I had a clear image in my head, and I just wanted to start right away.
I use 100% painter, and start with 1000x1000 pixels and a opaque bristly spray brush, that I use 99% of the time anyway. I start dabbing in shapes and color at teh same time and vary brush size, opacity, and most important FEATURES of the brush. Sample, a good big dabbing brush would be 17% size,21% opac, and 2.0 features. I probably seldom get the same brush, as I just change those sliders to get the result, not looking at numbers. But I gave a number so you can get the point. See that the girl is less detailed than the man, thats how the man started too. Moving on to pic 2, I added more detail, flipped the image, did some alterations to make sue it worked that way too. Then flipped back. Now I`m going to increase image size to 2000x2000 for the details.
Feel free to comment and suggest during the course of this image

I really like your art, verbjorn(even though most of it is Conan ). They always look like actual paintings rather than digital ones.

Curious, veb, how long does it take you to do pieces like the finished cover pieces? In any case, love your work, definitely carries that painted look and goes great with the Conan universe. I'm eagerly awaiting the update to this tut because I always find it interesting to see different artists go through the motions. I'm struggling right now with the problem of over-rendering stuff before I've blocked everything in so maybe seeing the stages another artist goes through will help curb that urge
