In a talk I had with the A.D. of the magazine I'm doing this job for, I mentioned the possibility of posting this (one of 10 images I'm doing for them) here, on sijun. I was told that if it's a pretty elite group that I'm showing it to, he sees no problem with showing it, but that I should use discretion wherever possible. I'm gonna opt not to tell you who this layout is for, but really would like to get feedback on it. I'll disclose the details of the job, once it's put into production
^Now that all of that paranoid jargon has been said, here is the image... please tell me what you think!

Not that I'm any expert on anything, but I love it. The style is a wee bit diffrent then what I've seen on your site isn't it? Charachter wise that is.
I especially like the laughing (?) guy behind the main person...
What tools do you use when you draw this? I've noticed alot of the sketchbooks have this sort of sepia tone to them, but I've never seen one of those in any art stores? Also what pencils do you use and so on?
Great work as usual though... Looks sort of like some game art... like... simon the sorcerer like or something, what do I know =) |

Thanks for the positive feedback, Strata
This isn't done on any sketchpad. It's drawn in painter using a 4x5" wacom tablet. In painter, I just create a canvas with that sepia tone background... and then I draw with the "dirty marker" (i adjust the tip to be perfectly round, then select a near black reddish/orange for the color).

Oh =)
Would you recommend a wacom intuos a4 oversized tablet? I'm thinking of getting one but I'm not really sure as to what type...
Anyways, it's really nice.
And while we're talking, thanks especially for the watch me draw thingamebob, gave me a great understanding of how to draw better, seeing as I just go ballistic and do hard lines right away not really figuring out the shape first =)
Thanks for being inspirational man ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/wink.gif) |

hehe
you know - for one of the few times - I was so into the image I forgot that I was supposed to try and critique it. Just kinda sat there waiting for it to move or something. It has an excellent feel to it.

I really like it. First the line style is quite unusual. It looks like a rough drawing but when I take a deeper look you feel lots of details.
I also love how the characters are detached from the background by using some little highlight... Each character is also really unique and I wonder what is the story of each one.
the background is also nicely done!!!!
For me this is really a masterpiece....

AWESOME!!
There's an incredible feel to this. I don't know how to put it. Sheesh! I wish I could come up with any useful suggestions, but it looks so cool ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

yup, sorry, like with synj, I sat there trying to pick out something that actually bugged me, but with no luck. i like it, and I think you've made a lot of great stuff showing on your site too. You have a very "newspaper-illustration" kind of style, and I really like that. Do you like Gerald scarfe and those kind of artists ?

Actually... I've never heard of Gerald Scarfe, but I'll go try to find him on the net today Thanks for the compliments!

Man, your stuff is always 200 percent amazing. =) Sepias are... I can never come up with suitable words, so I'll just go aaaaah... hehe.
I like the lightness/sketchiness of the background, (and mountains, yes those will forever be perfect), and I especially like that tree, like a bonzai tree (sp?). Twisted trunks rock. And the girl (yeah I always notice the girl), I notcied how she seems to be the teeniest bit more in focus than the rest (The sword is cool, too).
I did find something bugging me, though. =/ The man in front with the outstretched arms. His hands... they're big. And his body... is short. Eeh. Maybe you wanted him to look that way. (shrug) I do like the look on his face, though. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/wink.gif) |

I don't really like the idea of marking my posts with that overzealous grin icon, but it's ridiculously representative of how you fellas have made me feel today... in fact... here it is again, as a reiteration of my mood:
Thank you all... synj, lostpapers, Awetopsy, hydrid, & strata ... These have been a tremendous help to my confidence (ego?).
strata: I doubt that I'm one to get advice from, on purchasing a tablet. I've taken the bait of joining in on the tablet posts, where there is always the argument of bigger is better. I always say horsefeathers, because my strokes are very suited to a 4x5" good ol' art pad II Wacom. I'm of the opinion that bigger is better, if you mean that better is wasting money unnecessarily. I think I spent $130 on my tablet... one that someone else commented is a good "beginners tablet." That's like saying a 2B pencil is a nice "beginners pencil." You use what you use. I say go out and try what fits you, and make yer choice. I'm not familiar with intuos, or any other tablet for that matter. My guess is that it's a great tablet, but I (myself) would be weary of anything "oversized," because it would limit my natural doodling stroke, due to size. With my small tablet, I get great detail, and zoom in on the canvas if I need to broaden my strokes, or work more comfortably in fine detail. I probably didn't help at all, eh? Heheheh... well, I hope I did
Thanks for the comments, all... keep em comin!

skyediver.. ah, crap! you caught me!
I just finished this piece in color, too Thanks for being so perceptive. I don't think I did the sketch justice in my final color (I'm gonna go post a new topic for critique) I may have taken away from the mountains, too. I've never been very comfortable with colors, and I hardly ever do my pencils justice with color.
Let me know your thoughts on the new pic, k? I agree with you on the fella with the outstretched arms. I actually may change him, but I'm getting final approval today Crap! What if I'm approved, and it goes to print? (it's a digital submission... already submitted). We'll see, I guess. I'm gonna go make that new topic post, now. The title will be: "Group Meeting In Wilderness |Color|"
Come check it out, please. Thanks!
