Hi all here is a sketch I did the other day. I'm going to ink it later on. I never actually planned to ink it, so I rendered it all with pencil, but now I've decided to ink it and colour it. The background is a temporary one, when I colour it, it will be different.
If anyone has any suggestions or tips regarding inking, please share.
Any crit or comments appreciated.

Hi. Looks good. I'm not too experienced on inking, so I can't give you much help there. But I'd like to point out that the area where his belt and his sword meet looks a bit ambiguous - like an MC Escher painting, "Is it a sword? Is it a belt buckle?" I guess it's not that big of a deal, but it's pretty much the only thing that struck me as being somewhat off. Great job, otherwise.

When you ink, make sure all areas are CLOSED off. (in other words, all lines are touching each other. This will make the coloring job a lot easier. Also, put each inked item on a specific layer. For example, sword, hair, etc, or however you want to do it. Mmmm.... blow it up to 2x final size so when you shrink it the edges look good and crisp. Not much else tos ay. good luck, looks like a great picture. |

Love the pencil work on the image. Just a couple of things, on the face, it looks as though you are going to have a highlight on either side running down the side of the jaw/cheeks (a white section). These are usually difficult to pull off and I'd recommend having a think about having one side completely in shadow. Also, where the chest armour comes down near the hand, you have 3 shades of grey that really give it character. However, when you ink, these 3 shades will become one so you need to think about whether this is desired. If not, possibly crosshatching and changing the 'density' as you go might give you a similar effect.

Thanks everyone
The Monkey: Yes the head is a little small, thanks.
Waylon, when I colour it, it should be easier to distinguish what is what.
Eviltoylet: Thanks your advice is very helpful and I'll keep them in mind.
Freddio: Thanks, I appreciate it
Ctrl Z: Most likely paper, but what tricks do you know of? I'd love to hear about them.
Thanks matt, that's one of the main things I have to figure out when I ink it. WHat's going to be solid blacks, hatching or pure white. Thanks for your advice. |

Hey JasonN,
Nice work there! Would you mind if anyone took a stab at coloring it? I wouldn't want to try unless you thought it was a good idea....

Yeah sure! No one has ever coloured my work before so this is an honour having you colour it. Have fun!
EDIT: Although I don't know how you're gonna do it because there are so many mid tones. It really needs to be inked. Looking forward to seeing how you approach it.
