Hello!

long time no post.
I have never been a big fan of cartoons or comics but when i saw some pictures from Charles Vess I got really inspired to try it.
He has some incredible line and colorwork. This picture was based upon an idea I had a long time ago. The old original was made in Deluxepaint back in 95, when I first started with computer graphics.

old:

new #1:

new #2:

Ok so I made these two diffrent colorschemes. I think I will finish only one of them but I dont know how to paint water (first time I do it). Also i dont know if the composition is readable, is the perspective ok? the distances? colors? warmer/cooler? also, Is anything out of scale?

That my friend is really goooooood work. yep!
Proportions seem perfect to me and colorschemes are both really cool. I personnaly prefer the first one, though the water is better looking one the second.

Oh man. I really like em both. And I'd like to help. But you've got lot more experience than me I guess.

Hope that some oldtimer can help you And post the final one!

i relly like this stuff.

personally i like the first color scheme better (my favourite colors, all of them ;), but yes, the water looks more watery in the second one.

Very nice work. I really like the mood each of them set. I even like the old one with Deluxepaint. Can't wait for the finished product.

Nice work! I really like both of them, reminds me a lot of old adventure games (simon the sorcerer, sam & max, etc) It sad that they dont make games like that any more, nowadays it seems like everything has to be in 3d. But thats of topic

I have got no idea which one you should continue working on, sorry. Have to check out that Charles Vess guy now

Simon,

Oh wow.. I really like this... both colour schemes are awesome.. What you should do is finish both of them and make them matching peices called spring and autumn. That would be very cool.

I like tham alot man

excellent work.

God these are beautiful!

I love the colors in the first, and the water and distant trees in the second.

Composition wise, I keep seeing a character - maybe someone strolling through the pathway, or sitting on the docks.

Good job! -JJ

great development. You might want to add stronger colors and paint out the pencil lines. The water looks great though. First picture reminds me of.. legenf of kryndia hand of fate.... hehe good oldies.

Hey that's pretty good I think !
Personally I do love the first one you did in DeluxePaint, even if it's not finished. The trees in the background are quite nice I think ! Reminds me a lot of old 256 colors computer games. Good work !

just give me a 1024x768 version and I'll have a new wallpaper I love the amount of finish (or lack of) you have in these. I like both but the brownish one is my fave. It reminds me a lot of Vess, which is a compliment to be sure
I think it looks great as is, a figure would ruin it for me.

very nice

I also like the autumn colors scheme more. The lower one is good too but it's just little too much green all over, (like the things tend to be in summer). The composition looks fine in my opinion. Very nice pic.

aawww man, they are great!

i prefer the brownish one, and wouldn't change much at all
maybe a bird sitting anywhere would be cool, i don't know...

...and if you take the greenish one... ...you could add such a light-effect in the forrest as you had in the original pic

I also love the first one... the linework is better (take a look at the tree trunk and the dock) plus for some reason the colour scheme makes me think winnie the pooh will stoll into the scene any minute

Thank you everyone!
I will work some more on the autumn version. I honestly thought you would think the colors were wierdish in that one but its the one i like best too. The green one looks alittle to Disney I think.

zaar: Ahh! Those good old games. They are the reason I started doing coputergraphics in the first place =)

Awetopsy: And one for winter and spring also?...maybe with some other landscape but not with this one I think.

Painted Melody: Yeah. Characters is what I Should practice....Im doing lazylandscapes all the time instead =)

EviLToYLeT: Hand of Fate. Now THATS atmosphere! =)

Rinaldo: I mail the finished version then =)

Nice work on all of them. I especially like the light thru the trees thing in the original piece. Very dreamlike.

The brown scheme is more Vess. Love the light playing off the surface of the water. Very good!

great work, the water in the third image has a really nice quality to it. Very well done compositionally as well as having some great colours in each image. Wow Deluxepaint that brings back memorys, pixel by pixel shading creating artwork on the amiga took alot of time and energy. Anyway great work .

Simon! This is great, good to see more from you. The autumn coloring really grabs me, I'm glad you're working more on it. This reminds me of those other foresty landscape paintings you posted a while back. Whatever happened to those? They were also very cool. Anyway, I can't wait to see progress on these.
