Okay, just this one before I really go to bed.
Nightmare Before Christmas wins, hands down.
Long live Tim Burton! |

definitely one of the alien movies (excluding ressurection), I love the gritty reality(sort of) and visceral horror in isolation involved...mmmmmmm
I like the series' style of sci-fi way better than that of star wars.

Tie between: Any Kurosawa flick, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, cheesy lesbian pornography (Sista #11, for example), and, (not to rip Enayla), Nightmare Before Christmas, and lots of Spielbergian crap. And I make some pretty cool shit too. (Jesus 2001: The Second Odyssey)
Burton rocks.
Edition: I know you said only one movie, but this is just one big ball of movies, therefore still maintaining the singular.

Damnit...the taste of the forum is quite alike
Even before I entered this thread I knew that I had to make a tie between
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Nightmare Before Christmas and
Wizard of Oz (wonderful movie)
(the problem is that it's impossible just to pick one because movies can touch you in different ways. Those 3 films make me feel in very different ways (which we should not go into because then I would be sitting here long after the thread has been deserted and trying to remind myself what each and every bit of the movies made me feel))

The Star Wars trilogy(technically three movies, but I consider them one).
Close behind are a couple of Kurosawa's though(Yojimbo and Kagemusha to name a few). I heard somewhere that Star Wars was based on a Kurosawa film. Does anyone know what that movie is? |

Nah, I don't think that SW is based on a perticular Kurosawa film. But I do know that George Lucas is highly influenced by Kurosawa's works... |

too many great movies to decide, but I think I would have to go with "Alien"... that's one scaaaaaaary movie :P
Besides that there are lots of other great sci-fi flicks, and lots of hilarious comedies.
btw, IMO Crouching Tiger & Hidden Dragon sucked. Fights and stuff was all really cool, but that main girl was such a bitch. Her character is the worst ever in any movie I ever saw. She pissed me of so much... |

Actually,
Star Wars borrows quite a bit from Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress."
My favorite movie?

Trainspotting. It was the first movie I'd seen in ages that actually lived up to the book. |

Ooooh ooooh. I'm too much of a film geek to pass up something so tempting.
Naked (Mike Leigh)
Johnny Got His Gun (Dalton Trumbo)
The Holy Mountain (Alejandro Jodorowsky)
Gummo (Harmony Korine)
Requiem for a Dream (Darren Aronofsky)
Momento (just released in theatres, by Christopher Nolan.... go see it)
Seven & Fight Club (David Fincher)
Faust (Jan Svankmajer)
Leolo (Jean-Claude Lauzon)
Hate (Matthieu Kassovitz)
Akira (Katsuhiro Otomo)
Dead Man (Jim Jarmusch)
Cool Hand Luke (Stuart Rosenburg)
My Best Fiend (Werner Herzog)
Anything by Stanley Kubrick
Anything by Errol Morris
Okay, I'll stop here. At some point I would like to have a listing of my favorite films on my web site. Yeah, I should definitely do that. There are too many to name just from memory.

Here's me rolling my eyes at my list, so you don't have to.

The Matrix - they set up a universe which was almost too frightning to be acceptable and stayed within that universe without letting the story slip even once! For that I give credit! A close runners up would have to be Bladerunner, for the exact same reason!

Uh, I'd pick:
City of Lost Children (for it's perfect immersive euro-comic book style)
Unforgiven (for emotional impact)
7 Samurai (for best ensemble picture ever)
Teenagers from outer space (for most enjoyable BAD movie)
Can't pick "one"...Maybe Metropolis??
Ha ha, someone mentioned Cabin Boy- "My pipes are clean!" |

Fight Club
Row. |
