Hello everyone. I am planning on buying some books, but I am not sure if these books are what I am looking for. While the amazon reviews are helpful, I would really appreciate your opinions on these books. The books I am thinking about are:
"The Practice and Science of Drawing" by Harold Speed. I just found out about this book, but it looks very interesting
"Art of the Pencil" by Sherry Camhy. I have no idea what's in this book at all, but It looks fairly interesting as well.
"Drawing Realistic Textures in Pencil" by J.D Hillberry. This is the only book I have actually flipped through. While I did not get into it very deeply, I was impressed by the artwork, but I do not know how the good the instruction is.
As you can see, I am mainly interested in drawing in either pencil or charcoal. I have a fair background on the fundamentals of drawing, but I need a lot of work on my modeling. I want my work to be very linear, but I am still interested in learing more painterly techniques with pencil if thats what Camhy's book is about. So if any of you are familiar with any of these books, I would very much appreciate yout thoughts on it. If you think there is some other book that I would be interested in, please tell me, and I will look into it as well.
Thank you very much for yout time.

i have the book by J.D. Hillberry and its really a good one. there are so many little tips and techniques that he shows in it. his book definately helped me a lot with my drawings. if your concern is the instruction of the book, don't worry, its quite good. its definately geared more toward creating texture and lighting, rather than the fundamentals of perspective and proportions. definately worth checking out though |
