Yo, hello, bonjour, hi, whazzup!
Anyway, I know something like this has been addressed before, concerning mapping tablets to two monitors, but I'm taking it a step back. I'm curious about setting up the second monitor to begin with. I know I need two video cards. I have one Intergrated Intel graphics processor (as useless as a broken flashlight) but I may be getting a Geoforce4 PCI model. Now, how would I go about doing so, you know, setting up the second monitor so it's like one long screen. Mainly for digital art... Help would be great. |

assuming you already have an AGP card and windows, all you have to do is install the drivers for the PCI, unless your main is also nvidia..then you can use the same drivers for both. also Ultramon is a must for duals, well not a must..but it has many features you will find to be very useful. |

matrox make very good Fast 2D cards, if your not in2 games (tho' prolly are) might b worth lookin @ an old G400 or G450 on ebay and hook up ur PC with that on 2 monitors (i used to run a G400 with dual 19" was sweet, but then i got more in2 3D work) |

ATI Radeons have better color and 2D image quality (but make sure you get the ones built by ATI). However, their 3D drivers need work.
For NVidia cards, try powercolor, I hear that they use very high quality image output chips so they get around the usual shortfall of 3D cards in terms of 2D graphics quality. |

However the GeForce4 series has much better image quality then the previous series had. I notices no real change in sharpness when I changed my Geforce256 with a new Geforce4 ti4200 though. (running at 1600x1200@85Hz)
Leadtek also has a reputation of modifying cards in the older days of poorer shapness, to get better image reproduction. But it seems not to matter with Geforce4's.
ATI and Matrox I cannot speak of because of no first hand experience....

I only have space for a PCI card in my computer, and I'm looking for a video card which is good with the games also. I found a card GeForce4 MX 420 w/TV for 69 dollars (American) so is that good on the games, good with the digital art? |

i dont know about games on the secondary monitor. most games play on the primary card and will rarely use the secondary...i myself have a ATI radeon 7500 PCI, id say its average, benchmarks about the same as my AGP Geforce2 GTS...but pci will always be slower due to the bus speed...never had first hand on ant nvidia cards tho. |

PCI slots come in 2 flavours, 33Mhz (ur average joe blogs PC) and 66Mhz (dual CPU Server type PC)
so IMHO i'd not go for anything as flash as a GF4 your b better off with a GF2 style card and save ur money
basically if you want the same speed on both monitors go for a dual-head AGP and sell your existing GC |

I use a Matrox dualhead G400 with two Samsung Monitors. Matrox drivers allow you to expand the Screen-Area to both monitors without any problems. Works fine on Windows 98 and 2000... Drivers are pretty good and the picture quality imho excellent.
It may work with other operating systems but I have not tested it. I am working with this setup for three or four years now and it does its job
However, it is a little bit slow on 3D.
The Matrox G400/G450 are available on ebay for approx. 10$ nowadays May be worth a look (be shure to get a 32MB version)... |
