My university is selling Photoshop 7 for about $300, so I'm thinking about getting that. There's two reasons I haven't already bought it for that price. Did Adobe make a bad change to the program in version 7 that would make me want to buy an older version instead? Also, the reason that they are selling it for a low price is because it's meant for students. Does that mean it's an Academic version and it doesn't have as many features? |

to answer your first question, ps7 does have a number of noticeable differences from its immediate predecessor, most notably the new brush engine... if you're a longtime photoshop user, it'll take some time to get used to 7, but if you're a new initiate to the program, you'll have no more trouble getting used to 7 than you'd have getting used to any new program... i'd personally recommend 7 over any of the previous versions, due to its features and especially its brush engine...
as for your second question: no... the educational version is the same as the retail version, except for the price... it's more an issue of licensing than features... |

Well as a very long time user of Photoshop (since 2.5) I have no problem recommending 7, it's the best version by far. Some people seem to have had problems adjusting to the changes in the interface in the last 3 versions but in reality it's quite easy to adapt as long as you spend a little time learning the new workflow. |

Sounds like a nice deal.
Lotekk was right, I believe that the AE and Full license programs are functionally the same. The only difference is that you are not allowed to make any profit from your use of the AE program. That means no commerical jobs with that licensce. |

Total agreement with Frog... I've been using PShop since version 3. The change from 6 to 7 was difficult (because of the newbrush engine)but totally worth it.
Also,,, in 7, one of my favorite new functionalities is the real time viewing while using transform. Seeing the selected image change while the transform anchors points are being dragged about is unbelievably helpful... |

Going from Photoshop 5 to 6 was hell for me tho. Now working on 7 and it's a breeze. The new brush engine has some awesome potential altho a bit confoodling sometimes.
(P.S.: I still secretly prefer Painter's brushes) |
