what is the difference between 1200dpi and 2400dpi practically?

I am thinking about getting the HP 5400C scanner since it is 2400 dpi and has some other decent qualities and isnt too expensive.. should i really pay the extra $50 to go from the lower class model which has the only difference of 1200dpi to the 5400C which is 2400dpi?

I am using it to scan in my artwork and to scan in textures for video games..

HP sux as far as scanners go..

1200 vs 2400 is this optical res? or the res it says it goes up2 on the box?

i use an Epson scanner which for the money was gr8 value for money i've scanned many a photograph in and printed without any correction with fantastic results..

anything professional tho' i get drum scanned @ my local bureau

but as far as textures go, your not going to need all that resolution for gaming textures so any old scanner will do the trick..

well, both my printer and scanner are HP, and i have very good results.

Epson is also very good, but i prefer HP
because of it�s `easy to use software`.

My Microtek 4800 ScanMaker is a god-send, especially after years of suffering with a no-name brand scanner that would chop some parts of the scan up. I only wish it had a power button instead of having to reach under my desk and unplug it, those bulbs don't last forever :

I just bought one of those last night. Why do you need to unplug it? it automatically turns the light off when not in use (go into scan wizard basic mode, it's one of the options to set the time out).

Only problem I'm having is that when I scan, it saves it to a tif file that some programs open correctly, and some do not. And it cut off half the image in one doc i scanned.
