Just purchased Painter 7! But when I installed it on my PC I get:
This version of Painter has been damaged or illegally modified. Please reinstall from original disks.
Although it is the original disks. I know it works because after receiving this error I tried installing it on my wife's PC and it worked fine. Only difference between the two is I'm running WinXP Pro while she's running WinXP Home.
To say the least procreate's website is less then support friendly.
Anyone have any ideas?
May have to return this one.. Although I wanted to use it and the demo did work the full product doesn't.. ARRGH! I've searched the internet for similiar problems and only found one dated a couple years back which jin answered but didn't really help. |

Hi,
Yes B0b is right, whenever Painter is reinstalled, you first need to:
1. Uninstall Painter.
2. Manually delete any remaining folders and files.
3. Reboot.
4. Install Painter 7 and if it didn't already come with your software, install the Painter 7 Update.
5. Check to make sure the version is now 7.1.357. That's the Painter 7 Update version number.
6. Reboot.
7. Launch Painter.
If you need more help, good places to ask (include your complete system specs and Painter version, including patch if any):

For technical questions like this, these are the best sources, with a lot of long time Painter users and experts. It's good to sign on to all of them so when you have another question (or just want to stay up to date with things), you can post to all of them right away and have the best chance of receiving good responses quickly.
Good luck, |

Jin! Thanks! I can't believe it! I'm really not a n00bi3, in fact I've been working in IT for several years and rarely ever see a valid reason where a 'reboot' actually was needed..
Well I did the reboots per your instruction after uninstalling and clearing the registry and voila! I now have it installed with the latest patch!
Thanks much! |

You need to change your video card settings in your control panel to 32 bit color.
Painter requires 32 bit color.
If you are doing any digital art work you should be using 32 bit color settings for your video card. |

You're welcome!
Be prepared to have Painter bring you to your knees every so often. My favorite description ever was given by another Painter user. It went something like this:
Painter is like the most beautiful woman in the world, but you can't take her anywhere because she has Tourette's Syndrome and besides, she keeps passing out.
Really, Painter is a beautiful, exciting, and endlessly entertaining program.... and.... "she" is temperamental. The best safeguard is to be in touch with the Painter related lists, newsgroups, and forums (see the Painter Can forum URL below my signature), so you can stay up to date with what's happening, hear about problems and fixes before you run into them, get loads of tips and techniques, and get quick responses to your questions.
Don't try to handle everything alone.. it will just be hard and you won't accomplish anything but prolonging the agony.
Painter is worth all this, believe me. It's a real love affair for a lot of us.
Happy Painting! |

Hi,
The best Painter forum (message board where we can display images in our messages) is the Painter Can forum at In Depth Discussions. The URL is below my signature.
It's very active, members range from beginner to expert, many professionals, loads of support given to all with no distinction as to level of expertise (no "newbie stigma"), and a continual supply of tips and techniques, usually demonstrated with images. Lots of fun, too, with a warm and friendly community of artists.
I'd strongly suggest visiting the Painter Can forum and the other forums at In Depth Discussion if you're interested in them.
If you're learning Painter, there isn't a better place to hang out, and participating both there and at Sijun makes for a great mix of resources and knowledge.
For more technical questions, though most can be answered in the Painter Can forum, the best sources are:
Painter list at Topica.com http://www.topica.com/lists/painter-list/
Corel Painter Support Newsgroup
Add Server: cnews.corel.ca
Subscribe to: corel.graphic_apps.painter
and..
alt.fractal-design.painter
There are a few others, but they are either too inactive to bother with, or duplicate what can be found on the ones mentioned above, often with less expertise and accuracy in responses. |
