I'm new to this and was hoping you could give me some advice. Im just learning about cuts and flats and such and dont really know how to use modes in Photoshop. I do my coloring the 'hard' way by just picking darker and lighter versions of the same color for hilights and shades. |

Thanks for your help. Still not much on modes though. Multiply seems to work if you don't want it too saturated. And how do you know which color to use for a mode vs. the starting color? In Lara's tutorials, the colors she used could work even without using modes, which is what i used to do. |

I wouldn't use layer blending modes to determine your colour. tho I know a lot of pros do, with decent results.
I think using screen like Laura Depuy does in those tuts is not at all like simply airbrushsing two colours over each other. but you gotta understand what the blending modes do...and for that you can READ THE F*&%ING MANUAL. all the base info is there
using screen like that is very systimatic. you know what colours to use by fiddling with them for a while, and then using the same ones over and over.
the difference is in the half tone. if you use screen it will lose saturation towards the highlight.
if you don't understand why this is important etc (and where you might want/not want it to happen). then you shouldn't be using screen tho:P |

Is Laura on this board? She is the one who kinda got me into computer art. She kept on helping me when comiccolors used to be big. I heard she transferred over here, but have never seen a post of hers. |
