Over on the Wetcanvas Forum in the digital section, a new member called JavaJive left this message:
quote: This is my first "finished" work in digital, my daughter Jennifer. This portrait was taken from a basic pencil sketch of her school photo then scanned into PSP. I only used 1 layer and lighten the sketch before starting the painting. This took 3 days to do since I only had time to work on it during lunch breaks, lol. Now I need to find a tablet, making the hair with my mouse was a bit awkward.
Any criticism will be studied with interest, thanks
And the picture which I animated with the ACTUAL original reference...
That is pretty outrageous... and what's odd to me is that the paintover is actually quite good!!!
Does anyone recognize who it might be. Ring any bells... my guess is it's not JavaJives first attempt at fraud...
The Wetcanvas thread is
here...

You're right Dekard, that's definitely Susan Dey. She's obviously not the man's daughter and he's obviously a fraud.
I agree with Phil, it's not that he painted over the photo, it's the fact that he lied about it that makes him a fraud.

Isn't 'Susan of the Partridges' written on that magazine? ![](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

AndyT... Perhaps I wasn't clear. JavaJive claimed that his digital painting was made from his (or her) scanned pencil drawing of his daughter's high school picture. Another person (see the WetCanvas thread) found the Susan Dey Teen magazine cover (1971), the actual reference that the jerk over painted...

phil, i hate doin gthis, because it'll give him alot of traffic and attention, but this mofo is a million times worst than your guy. i mean he even has a tutorial! ahhh the audacity of this person. well, see for yourself and make up your own opinions. btw, he posts these pictures in forums too, on eat poo he was like, "i'm bored of realism" and post of of his blurred photos.

I don't think the issue is whether he's made money off it... to my way of thinking he is simply hurting digital painting by perpetrating his fraud... claiming he digitally painted the picture from a scanned pencil sketch when it is clearly a photo manip/paintover...
As I indicated, I have no problem with photo manips or paintovers, as long as the artist makes it clear that is what is going on. To my way of thinking there are no rules when it comes to making art... except for outright lying about how its made. |

No ... I got that!
I should have addressed my post to Dekard and Malachi Maloney. It seems they haven't seen that info on the cover. |

*sigh*, I get really unhappy when hearing about these people. I hope they find somebody to take care of them, they must be lonely indeed.
Just saw on Eatpoo that PixelSoldier (which I just had a fight with here at this forum because I thought he was too strong on bashing a paintover), was found out... he's been faking all of "his" work, using a fake "real" identity, talking about his girlfriend and school... weird... and he's done that using other nicks before as well. Too bad, really. ![](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) |

hah its one thing to to a cheap paint over... but whats the deal with making up the whole story about his daughter and all? jeeez, if your goinna put that much effort into fabricating a story, then put the effort into actually painting the piece yourself... |

I think its because he doesn't want people to know that he has that picture for reasons other then "refernce"
Another dead giveaway is the fact that shes leaning to the side, in the school photos they dont let you do that. |
