hello dudes.

I've finished working on my new website.
What do you think..tell me what you like, what you do NOT like...what's good, and so on...I'd like to hear more comments about the layout than pictures in gallery section, they are all crap. But design...how is that.
And what do you like about my new hannuDESIGN logo on the top of the site..+

none of the links were clickable to me, i've got some old netscape navigator, 4.7 i think.

i guess the image maps would be best replaced with table and cropped smaller images as links.

It loaded pretty quickly for me (56K) so I did not lose interest at all.

First thing I noticed was the spacing between the menu text at the top. the | bars are so close to the edge of the text that it takes a bit more concentration to be able to actually read it. Think about giving the text some 'breathing space'. Make it easier on the eyes. You also especially need to consider this because of the font you chose. It isn't the most readable font at the best of times. I do like it personally, and use a similar one myself... but you have to recognise its limitations and proper uses.

The email adress down the bottom is insanely hard to read. At least make it actually link to your email address. Like so:

code
Quote:
 <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a>

You can even include a default subject line by adding some extra code inside. Like this:

code
Quote:
 <a href="mailto:[email protected]?subject=hello">[email protected]</a>

I also found it hard to see the menu text inside the frame in the image map. The text is hard to read. I don't think that this menu is really necessary at all, since the main one is merely just above it. If you do intend to keep it then at least increase the contrast a bit to make the text stand out from the background.

Thumbnails. I would suggest making them smaller. This would make the loading time quicker and I don't think it would detract any quality from them at all. One other thing is the spacing between them. I would suggest even up the row and column widths so that they are equal. Aligning them on a stricter grid should just neaten it up a little.

I like the logo idea, I think I can make out what it is. A head and a pallete combined is what I figured out. But I had to figure it out and that indicates to me that it isn't a strong enough and clear enough concept to really make a quick impact. I really like the concept, but I think it just needs some polishing to make it easier for ppl to see and recognise instantly.

Colours. Hmmmmm, well I really don't like them at all. Colour is such a personal thing though, so my opinion is based on what I like. However, as a designer I also feel that I can put aside my personal opinions and based on my knowledge I still see a problem:

The colours don't go together very well. Generally brown and cyan or light blue really look awful.

Sorry if that offends you at all, I would strongly suggest that you look around the net and get ideas from any sites that you really like. You'll learn a lot this way, I find that learning with your eyes and with your own initative is the best way. I have learnt oodles of stuff just by looking and observing.

I like the layout because it fits nicely in the middle of the browser and is viewable at any resoluton, the scroll bars of the frames are a bit irritating on the first page but neccesary for delivering content.

Keep working on your painting, I can see potential and noticed your pictures progressively improving in the thumbnails. I like the omakuvacopy.jpg picture. It has just occured to me that in this picture may have the key to improving the colours of your webpage. I think that the blues, purple-brown and hints of orange in this picture work much better and would be not too far from the colours you already chose, so no drastic changes are neccesary. Think about the pallete of this picture and maybe you can apply it to your design.

Hope that helps.

Oh, never thought to get that good comments!!
Thanks a lot Ian!!!!!
Has somebody any idea of making my menubar some other way...I like the normal horizontal line where the links are, but something special, and something what people notice, that ooooh, what a awesome menubar..

actually I don't even myself like bron and light blue together, but it just came like that when I played a bit in photoshop with a normal skin color..

About the logo...thanks Ian, it was it! Though a bit hard to see...

One thing is that have anybody any ideas, of making different frames so that ...umh, my bad english..I mean that should there be a line or something between different frames, like that there's not just the lightblue everywhere...?!

Thanks everyone...

np, glad I could help.

The menu could be spruced up a bit in photoshop. Have a look at some tutorials, egspoono.com micro button tutorial or Phong.com or eyeball design.

I think it is fine to just have the light blue in each frame, but there is the option of actually making the center frame look a lot more like a window, with extra fancy image borders around it... but it is a little complicated and not necessary.
