Hey all,
I am unable to resize the canvas in painter. The little border does move, but the adjusting bars and the button do not. So i've got my canvas at maybe 50% and the frame border full size, but the canvas itself does not resize. I know this worked before any ideas?

Goddammit - how did they get this thing past beta testing? |

Neither. When Painter opens a new canvas it only displays it on maybe 40% of the screen. I am trying to use the handle in the lower right hand corner to drag the border to fit my monitor and thereby resizing the viewable area. But painter only moves the little border of the canvas, but not the handles for moving the img up/down & left and right.
Here is a pic:

Thanks for any help,

Looks like a video card problem. It looks from the screen shot you are using Win98.
Have you added any computer games recently?
Might want to update your video driver. |

Nope, neither I am using XP pro and all other applications work fine, including explorer. Painter worked before with the same video card-drivers. I haven't added any games, etc. At least none that I can think off. Thanx tho for the tips. Here are my specs for future inquires: XP pro, 1.8 Ghz, 768 Corsair MB, 80 GB HD, Gefore4. I think that'll do it. Oh ja two Monitors.

Hi,
It sounds like what you're trying to do is not resize the Canvas (which would be making the Canvas itself larger, i.e. more pixels), but, instead, to resize the image window.
The quickest way is to use Ctrl/Command+M to maximize the image window, then use Window > Zoom to Fit to zoom the Canvas to the maximum size that will display centered inside the image window.
Painter 7 has a small problem with this, however. When we use Ctrl/Command+M the image window extends slightly beyond the Painter screen so you won't be able to grab the lower right corner to manually resize the image window again and the icons and Scale slider in the lower left corner of the image window aren't visible.
The workaround I use (it's a pain in the neck and if anyone has a better one, please share it) is to click the Restore icon in the upper right corner of the image window (middle icon) to make it smaller again, then if I still can't grab the lower right corner of the image window, I grab the upper right corner and drag to make the image window much smaller, then move the image window to the upper left corner of the Painter screen and, finally, click and drag the lower right corner of the image window so it fills the Painter screen.
Usually, using Ctrl/Command+M is fine. It gives me maximum room to zoom the Canvas to fill the image window and I only need to have the image window smaller if I need to see the icons and the Scale slider in the lower left corner of the image window.
If you continue to get that funny display when attempting to resize the image window, when you've finished resizing it, double click the Magnifier tool to zoom the Canvas to 100% and refresh the screen.
To move the Canvas around in the image window, use the "G" key to activate the Grabber tool, then click the Canvas and hold while moving the Canvas to a new position in the image window.
To resize the Canvas, use Canvas > Resize and type the number of pixels for Width and Height. You can also change the Resolution (number of pixels per inch, or ppi) using this dialog box. This enlarges or reduces the entire image, including Layers, Shapes, etc., as well as the Canvas itself.
If you want to make only the Canvas larger, use Canvas > Canvas Size then type the number of pixels you want to add to the top, bottom, left, and/or right sides.
OR..
If your Canvas has been filled with another color use the Dropper tool to pick that color, use Canvas > Set Paper Color, then use Canvas > Canvas Size as described above. Now the added pixels will be the same color as the Canvas instead of the color you chose when the Canvas was first opened.
Hope that works for you.
Good luck, |
