Is it like scanning standard 35 mm slides ? Do you need retro lighting as well ?
I tried the trick of putting a white tupperware on top + strong light behind it like when you scan a 3D object (like a toy) but alas.... Maybe it's just this cheap scanner.

Anyhow, if anyone ever attempted that I'd love to know

I scanned an x-ray sheet of my broken finger using the xpa adapter that came with my HP scanner. Basically it's a holder with a built in lamp that provides backlighting. I removed the thingy which holds the 35 mm film slides making the usable area a little wider (43mm x150mm instead of 35x150). It was good enough for that narrow x-ray sheet. My sister has some cool x-rays of her skull I'd like to scan. Using this method that'd be a 5 scans stitched together somehow. (We keep falling off horses breaking some bones here and there.)

I've found this on the net - might be helpful. I like the idea of placing the sheet on a lightboard then taking pics of it with a digicam.

Thank you very much Nighteyes, that was a very interesting read !
The digital camera sounds like the most probable solution in my case..
Hmmm.. I'd do a bad doc as I can't tell your finger is broken... Your sis broke her *skull* ? omg !

It was just a crack on my little finger, even the doctor had trouble finding it. You can see it here.

Don't worry, my sis is ok. She had a mild concussion when she fell off a horse.
