A quick method to add rust over another surface would be to paint a dark color, near black, with a broken texture over the clean metal. I've used color burn and/or multiply for this. Then paint the same area with the same texture, but less dense with a burnt sienna in normal mode. It's trial and error, but can yield good results. |

in actions there is a category called textures. And there u will find rusted metal. Try to play with that . Maybe make a mask and combinie two textures (the rusted one and the texture of gun and you can come up with something cool. |

draw from life, always.. look at rust , I ;m sure you know what rust looks like, dont you ?
If you paint some brown with a bit of red on your metal (opaque probably) and add some grain to it I m pretty sure that will look like rust.
for the grain you could probably use a noise filter or similar filter |

Use the smallest dot, draw brown or silver (you decided) and shake your hand around, getting a kind of "edgy" circle...then draw lines that come out of it..add little dots around too..you can see my rust in the WIP section on my UT 2003 pic.. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
