I'm sure this has already been discussed. Lately, I have been seeing people posting their pics saying it was done in PS and Painter. I would like to know what they are using from each program. Does Painter have better brushes or something? I'm sure there isn't just one thing they prefer to use from each program I would still like to hear what people have to say.
Right now I'm using PS6 and I want to know if its worth getting Painter. |

It all depends on what your into. If you want to imatate real painting then use painter, If you want sharper more realistic images use photoshop.
I for exapmle, Use Photoshop to make my characters, then i use Painter to make a painted backdrop. then I go back to ps to touch it up and Im done.
Hope that helps |

From my experience so far in PS and Painter I know you can do realistic painting in Painter actually. Especially Painter 7 with all the new stuff in it. There are many tools which create sharp marks, like the Pen & Ink, etc
However I've been creating some really cool 'grainy' textured things in Painter that I wanted to do but couldnt do yet in Photoshop. Mostly I like the paper texture showing through brush strokes and the many different tools.
Based on Painter experience I imagine now some ways I could reproduce things in Photoshop I could for example create a paper texture layer in BW and have it multiply with some brush paint layer to get texture effects..
So far, I think it's invaluable to know and use both programs, I 'd be very sad without Painter now that I've been using it seriously.
When you want to explore your 'creativity' do some abstract stuff, explore colors & texture.. Painter is much more direct. Photoshop will get in the way. |
