Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a new tablet 'cause my old one sucks. What bothered me most (besides that "relative positioning" didn't work for some reason, which is a real bugger) was that the sensor for cursor positioning was in the pen and not on the tablet. Since it's the only tablet I ever owned, I don't know what the standard is (the corporations' product sites don't really clearify that) Where's the sensor on yours and where's the sensor on the Graphire2?
Thanks!

Why does the sensor location matter?
Ummm...anyway, on the Graphire and Intuos series, the pen contains 'passive sensors'. I believe it's a series of inductors, which will affect the electromagnetic field generated by a mesh in the tablet. This effect can be measured by the tablet.
Soo....I guess that answer is that the sensor isn't in the pen, but it's kinda a gray area. |

Well, thing is, whenever I get close to the tablet with my pen the cursor already moves and I only want it to happen when I (that is: the pen) touch(es) the tablet. |

I don't think any tablets allow you to do that. Although it would be perfectly possible to do within the drivers - the actual hardware doesn't prevent that sort of setup. |

the cursor is supposed to move when the pen is in the approximity of the tablet. Not just when it's directly on the surface. That's because otherwise things like browsing files would be harder. At least i think that it'd be easier to tap the tablet with the pen by accident.
Why don't you want the cursor to move when the pen isn't on the surface? That sounds kinda weird. I mean... what's the problem with that? Most people tend to consider it so that the longer the distance from which the tablet senses the pen the better. I know I do. |

I think that the set up that you describe would be incredibly annoying, you use the pen for a lot more than just drawing, interacting with the interface, pushing buttons, I would not want to have to drag it each and everytime I needed to do that. Get yourself a good wacom and I think you will be happy regardless.

Hm, I guess I don't like the 'move-eventhough-it-doesn't-touch' feature because I'm very used to do my sketches on real paper and I guess I just need the feel of something underneath my pen. I remember my very first sketch on the tablet: it was crap. I think drawing on a tablet is really a whole lot different from normal drawing, just like the difference between pencil and watercolor. Oh, doesn't anybody want to do a tutorial on this ("From Graphite to Graphire" or something like that )
BTW, I thought the Wacom have pressure sensibility. How does this work if you don't touch the tablet? |

yup yup... a pen moves over the paper exactly like the cursor moves on the screen when you put the tablet pen near the tablet, but it only draws when you push it against the surface sounds natural to me... |
