Hey fellas. I'm new here and no I'm not going to ask how to post a picture. I've been checking over some of the artists images and damn! You guys just amaze me. First off I guess I should tell you all I don't have a wacom tablet or even a high speed byte eating computer.... I have only PS6 running on a 64 meg ram system. Pentium 2 or 3 I think. Windows 98.. Old shit but it's all I got. I already do some photoshop artwork, but nothing great, and nothing like the painting style. I'm wondering is there anyway I could actually do paintings like most of you guys here? If so, how? Where do I sign up or read to learn this wonderful style of computer art... Help is greatly appriciated. And sorry for any bad spelling mistakes but it's kinda late. Thanks in advance to you all, and Eyewoo, thank you for introducing me to this forum. Later folks. |

Do you have a scanner? or access to one?
If so, you can scan in a drawing, then do some colouring with a mouse in photoshop. There is no specific place to learn how to paint digitally. I can assure you though, that this forum is a really great asset and helped me get a start. So you've come to the right place imo.
There's hope for you. I have seen some pretty amazing work done with a mouse. I have seen some pretty cool stuff come out of ms paint too.
To get you started, just do a search on this forum (there is a little link for it at the top right). Search for 'tutorials'.
Hope that helps. |

Welcome to the forums.
Practice, practice, practice. There are no shortcuts. There aren't any magic spells that will teach you perspective, form, lighting, composition etc. I guess one of the cool things is that there's always something new to learn or new styles to try out.
Only Photoshop 6? Heh, that's 2 versions ahead of me. I think Dhabih (the guy who owns the forum) still uses Photoshop 3 or something.
As for your computer, seems fine. 64MB is definately pushing Photoshop 6 to it's limits. I'm actually surprised it runs, though I guess it depends on what size of pic you're working on.

Hey Ian thanks for the tips... I do have a scanner but it's broken so it won't do me any good. But maybe if I can find other images online. I think I know of a place or two. I hope there is hope for me lol With great helpers like you guys I'm sure I will do just fine, or at least I hope. I used to be a good drawer but since I haven't done it for a while I am not as good.
Ceenda - thank you for your words of wisdom. Just jump right in like Ian told me too correct? Well I hope I can pick up on stuff and as soon as I start I'll post and hopefully get plenty of C&C. Photoshop 6 I got from a friend. He used to be a college profesor or something. Were both good friends and he sent me photoshop in the mail as a gift along with some others. Really nice guy... I luv PS6, but my computer doesn't love it so much. My old one has 48 megs of ram and it takes forever... Makes it hard to paint or draw smoothly. Zak were at the bottom of the food chain Well thanks once again. The help is much appriciated. |

I'm on a Cely466 with 128 of ram
+ a cheap scanner + a cheap 5"x4" tablet
I assure you that you can make art on it.
But if you are serius on improving, Get that scanner fix! you can only do better digital art when you have one. Does a tablet nessesary? Well it's an advantage if you've got one & it'll be a requirement once you've got into the late stages of digital painting.
I've heard of people using mouse instead of tablets, but not one got away with out a scanner. ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
