Hi all

What program should i use to make 2d-sprites like the ones in many fightinggames?
Take for example KOF2k(King of fighters 2000), the sprites looks awsome, i know the guys who makes em are real proffesionals(Which i am not ), and i guess ill never get as good as they are, but atleast i want the tools they use.
thank you...

Personally I have been working on a prototype 5D sprite animation which uses all the built in software in your head, and allows you to recreate your life holographically (or any idea you have) in front of you, not unlike holo projection in Star Wars.

not really, I jsut jump into topics I know nothing about so i can expand my frame of reference, and appear like an idiot.

I would model and animate my character in a 3D program (I used Softimage). Then I would render the images then bring them into photoshop to pixel clean and make them into a sprite.

You ideally want a program like Autodesk Animator or Deluxe Animate . . . you may need to get a 486 to use either of them properly though. Couldn't be too expensive . . . Autodesk Animator is basically free abandonware now, and an old DOS box won't cost you more than $50.

There are some clones of Deluxe that will run on newer machines, but I can't vouch for their quality.

And forget about using a tablet . . . by the time you're pushing individual pixels around, a mouse is better.

Just some general tips . . . I started doing digital art in Autodesk Animator when I was 12 or 13, and some of the first things I made were non-interactive demos of fighting games I wanted to see. *sigh* . . . good times
