Okay everyone, I haven't really used banner links before, but I'd like to start. I'm just wondering what the proper technique is. What i mean by that is:
How do I setup a banner that I can change any time, and change where it links to any time, but not have to send everyone and update. It has to do with uploading it somewhere with a link attached, and get them to use that url, or something...I"m so confused, can anyone help me?
thanks

The only way that I can think of is for them to use the url for the image from your server to imput the image. that way all you have to do is replace the image at your server and ta-da. This could be the most elementary way of doing it, but I am sure it will work.

Hosting it on your server is the only way I can think of it working. Besides, like Roundeye said.. that would really shit me off if it went to a red X. If I linked to someone who wanted me to make it a url image, I would probably just save the banner file anyway.
You could probably do some 'tricky shit' with scripts to notify a site owner when there is an update, but you'd have to be a genius. Or drink at least 10 cups of coffee per day.
Maybe create a script on your page that requires ppl to go through a registration process, that gives you their name, email, website... so you can contact them in the future when you update.
Generally though, ppl update it anyway! Because like you, they are website owners and they are picky about 'image' too. I have a good visual memory, and I instantly notice if a banner changes. Even one that I saw ages ago, I can recognise if it is new, and if so I go and check out the site to see if there is some new content. So I think you shouldn't have problems unless of course you update it every day!
Hope that helps. |

I never said that it was flawless, just the only way that my non-computer educated brain spunge could think of. Sad I know, but true. |
