Its my friends birthday and I want to get her some better drawing pencils and paper, but I'm really not sure what to get. She is an amazing artist (some of her work , more) But she just uses crappy #2 Pencils and cheap sketch paper. Now I know the tools don't make the artist, but they can't hurt Does anyone have any suggestions on pencil types/paper types? Anyone know a good package deal to get? Thanks!

WOW... she is good... There must be a good artist supply store in your area... They could probably give you some good advice.

Maybe you could get her some of this stuff ...

Derwent pencils are my favourite, since your friend is into pencildrawing, it would probably make more sense to get her some type of pencils, than say a bunch of expensive oilpainting starter kit or something like that. Maybe introduce some colors or something "similar but different"? Check out the Derwent link below. I've wanted a set of those watercolor pencils myself for a long time now, but never got around to it (yet)
Derwent Cumberland Pencil Company - Website

Paper is important too of course ...
Look for ringbound pads from brands such as Strathmore, Canson, Pro Art, Daler Rowney etc. etc ...

I'd be happy if I even got ONE of those ...

MisterArt.com has a pretty good selection of stuff ...

When I use graphite I like to have blending sticks and kneaded eraser. Those things are cheap too, so they might be good to include.

Prismacolor pens. Just look at Feng Zhu's stuff to see a master at work.
