I know most ppl regard tracing as an evil in drawing practices, but I think if used properly it could have some very good benifits for learning structure, form and lighting. Here's an example of an excersise that I do using tracing, lemme know what you think. ![](http://members.rogers.com/n.u.k.e.e/tracing-excersise01.jpg) |

i learn a lot from tracing when i do(not often enough though, for real. i dont have a camera).. dont let the fools here tell you what to do or how you should do shit. check the source. not the bullshit talk. a lot of pent up frustration here. beware. |

Tracing is just another tool, no more, no less, just like photo manipping and gridding. Each piece of artwork is a production with an inception, an execution, and a, "think I'm done!" The pathway from beginning to end is a series of choices made by the artist. The final product will either have its own voice and life, or it will simply fade away...
How you choose to work... the effort you choose to put into your work... these are the preludes to your work's acceptance. If your methods are sincere, that sincerity will be evident in your final work.

For me it's great to "warm up" with tracing. Also I trace when I seem to have problems to copy and want to learn and understand how sth. works. Thus, a useful tool (although my teachers condemned tracing and copying that much that I still apologize when I show my works...)
