Hi, I need to create texture for 3dmax and also paint my models in PS. I have always used PS for imaging, but I have never try doing any painting so far. Is there any good tutorial or even books that teaches how to paint (painting in general, not just character painting) and make realistic textures (can be hand made or filters etc) in PS? any comments are welcome. Thank you. |

so you're making a model, eh? First off what kind of texture are you working on? If its a basic wood grain its a lot less painstaking compared to a metal or glass. Every texture can be done with PS. Dont forget to add bump, reflective, and other maps (in addition to the diffuse map) to make your objects look real. If I'm being hard to understand I just woke up, so if you have any questions post again. heheh

YES!! finally a question I feel like I could answer.. I'm a texture artist and I been using Photoshop for many moons to make all my textures. To tell you the truth I find it overboard to actually draw textures from scratch. I would say 98% of the textures I make are 90% from photos. I have about 8000 stored reference photos that I have collected from cds, the web, or from my own camera. I make textures for futuristic cars and buildings and each texture has anywhere from 10-50 layers of photos and effects. I still do some drawing but that is mostly to darken up areas or make a texture tillable. Sure I know how to make a rock or wood texture from scratch. but what is the point when I can have a better looking texture made in one tenth the time? I made a short tutorial on how to modify a photo texture on my website if you want to take a look. |

I didnt specify on what kind of texture i need because I dont wanna come to the forum everytime I need new textures. btw I am working on a scifi spaceship.
Of course I can use photos to start making texture, but even that I need to know how to do it. Right now I have no clue. It ll be second nature to B3AND1P coz you went to art school. I am not sure... may be I should go get a PS special effect cookbook?? hmm..
As for the painting part, is there any books or tutorial on "how to use PS tools to paint" or something similar? Right now I am throwing in paints and smudging them around, doesnt look right at all |
