Hi guys... I have a fantastically silly question that I've been wondering about for a while... how do you actually pronounce gouache? Is it gooo-ach or gow-ch or what? =)

hmm.. i say it

gouache.

goo-ach I suppose, but more goowaa-shhh (not long and drawn out though. much shorter.)

I just kind of blend the oouuarsh together, almost sounding like W. gw-oouuarsh, sorta.

Tricky to put into words. Perhaps this will help. Here's the setup:

1. Get a kitchen funnel, preferably metal if possible.

2. restrain the family pet (has to be a cat).

3. Position cat's mouth into funnel.

3. Whilst pulling firmly but slowly on the cats tail, simultaneously move the kitchen funnel away from mouth to produce GOO! WAH! WAH! effect.

It's a little ruff around the edges, and I am yet to perfect the sound. Practice makes perfect! lol.

Silly answer to silly question.

Does the brand of cat matter? I expect a siameese would sound different from one of those fat ones that look like they've fallen from impossible heights and landed on their face

Goooowaaaash. Cool, thanks Ian =D

Go here...
http://www.m-w.com/netdict.htm

Enter the word and retrieve the definition; next to the definition is the universal audio icon (a little speaker) - click it to hear how the word is pronounced.
