seen many great sculptures on this forum and i was wondering what media these people used.
i would like to try and make some action figure poses and i have no idea how to start.
i remember seeing a guys orc sculpture he did for Blizzard and its the same damn action figure thats beside my monitor.
so i owuld love to know if there is any good books out there for that type of sculpting? and what tools will i need? etc. etc.

personally I would use clay to get an idea of what I want, I used to reclam my own clay from the ground, but tell you the truth it was just time consuming. Buy it really it isn't all that expensive. Then do a final in supersculpty. Do a papermache sculpture using wall paper paste, it is an interesting medium.
Has anyone ever heard of Indian Wax. it is a type of wax(duh) and it is plyable enough once it has been headed and needed by the hands. I have never used it, but have seen some great work done with it.

Really...what medium you use is entirely up to you. Don't let your creativity and technique be limited to just clay. Mix some plaster, pour it into 5 gallon bucket, let it set and then remove the bucket (destroying it if you have to); you now have a nice piece of plaster to start doing reductive sculpture, and plaster is fot so you can use basic household items to cut and carve with.
Welding and metalworking is another very popular medium for sculpture.
Building - not carving - with wood is another way. Studs, plywood, nails, wire mesh (chicken wire even) and the right power tools can lend to some great possibilities.
Get your 3D on, but in the physical sense!!
