Starting in october this year, i have to do 6 months of internship in graphic design and/or illustration for university. I was hoping to find a place outside of Germany, preferably in the USA. Has anyone here any experience with this, where does it make sense to apply, what do the people on the other end need to know, what forms do I have to fill out, what will i have to expect in terms of financial issues, that kind of stuff and anything else that you think could help...
My preference would be in Games/Movie creation, concept work, but I've been working in an advertisement agency (as a graphic and web designer) for more than two years parallel to uni, and I love that, too, so that would be just perfect as well...
If anyone has any information for me, I'd be very grateful. Thanks! |

Hey wayfinder!
Well, get your portfolio together and apply for an internship at the game/vfx companies of your desire. Go for an unpaid internship. That might work.
But make sure you have a brilliantly tight portfolio.
The adresses can all be found out over the net. Do it now because things take a while to go through a company.
Good luck ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

i am not sure how i would be able to afford an unpaid internship - i guess i wouldn't! damn..
also, do you recommend submitting a portfolio via the web? or do you think that a CD will be more effective? |

We do unpaid internships. Sometimes paid if they require minimal training.
For video game companies, VHS (NTSC format) for showing animation, for anything else an online or CD portfolio does fine for most companies. Some game developers are picky and only accept video tape portfolios, but not that many. |
