Greetings
Sorry if this is an age-old topic but...
Does anyone know if there's a paint program out there that allows you to paint interactively instanced tiles?
I'd like to paint on a single 256x256 image, with duplicates on either side & above/below, so that whatever I do to the center image gets simultaneously duplicated on the other 4.
That way I can make sure the images tile properly as I'm painting them, rather than waiting to see them mapped.
(This would be for making tile-able texture maps for video game building models.)
I seem to recall being able to do something like this with deluxe paint on my Amiga back in the day.
Can photoshop/painter/etc do this?
Thanks in advance. |

In Photoshop you can hide the seam manually by using the offset filter (plugins/others/offset) and painting over the seam, after that it should tile perfectly. |

head over to
http://www.gfxartist.com/features/tutorials/740
a step by step tutorial on creating a tileable texture
I'll also advise anyartist here, who don't know about that place to visit - some high standard of artwork on display. Good place to show case your work. |

Still, I think the "tile"-mode in Deluxe Paint on Amiga was the better way to make tileable textures because you had immediately an overview of what your texture will look like once it is tiled.
Its mostly not just the edges that matter but also the too strong details which make it look so repetitive.
I wish PS would have such a tile feature.
btw: here is a tool that could be useful for some cases. (but dont expect too much from it...) |
