or a more appropriate subject would be 'Burning your bridges'
Read the bottom e-mail first and work your way up chronologically..
What was this guy thinking...

So.. he got the job, right?
Heh, too funny. I can't imagine why anybody would get that upset over a simple application. That e-mail exchange reminds me of a short one that my company was sent in response to an ad we sent out for artists. He basically said: "I noticed your ad about needing an artist. I am an artist for hire but I don't do characters or environments. Please contact me." Made us wonder just what he would do for a game company.
On another note, does this mean that you're somehow involved with Lionhead Studios? Just curious, I've been following Project Ego for some time now. I'm personally hoping that it turns out to be a stellar game.

We got that mail forwarded to us yesterday, I believe its spreading around the games industry mail networks like wildfire, most amusing retort not exactly professional tho. It was a touch naive to send a mail like that when he has been in the games industry for quite a while to not expect other potential employers to hear about it. This guy has pretty much trashed his chances of getting a job anywhere in the industry meantime I'd say ( bit of an attitude problem methinks ). It's a shame because his pixel work is actually very good.
What I'm wondering is if he spent a while considering what he was gonna type or was sent into an immediate rage, typed random words out angrily, and then sent the mail before thinking? :-) |

Sumaleth; Give heed to your own advice ye of unemployed status..

Dr Bang.. I haven't really been doing much painting outside of work, so I haven't got much to contribute. If you want to see what we here at FrameStore-CFC have been up to (amongst other projects) be sure to watch the DinoTopia mini series to be aired on the 12th of may in the US and Canada. It's 3 made for TV movies. Be sure to watch it... |

Of course this guy is dumb. But at the same time it is really obnoxious how companies put up permanent job openings on their site when they don't actually have an opening just so it looks like they are the "rapidly expanding team of talented game developers" that they claim to be. It's all show and insiders know that but if you are just a newbie you will not and it can be very frustrating.
Who knows.. maybe this guy has been trying for a long time and keeps on getting this.
I've seen it happen.
Looking for a job can emotionally be very draining and people just wasting your time like that can make you snap. It's just smarter to yell at someone else or an inanimate object for that matter.
hehe
But as pathetic as this guy might be I think it is a bit immature to show this to all your buddies and destroy his career for good over one email. |

edraket... being in my sixth decade on this planet and having made my share of mistakes and stooopid moves, I have to agree with you. If the internet had been around when I was but a wee lad, I'm sure I would have stuck my virtual foot in my virtual mouth on occasion. ...but OTHOH, maybe I'd be a lot farther along today... Who knows.
I was never quite as krass as Mr. Johnny Wood, but then I grew up with Howdy Doody and Kukla Fran and Olie, not the Cartoon Channel... The Cartoon Channel in the fifties... now that would have been outstanding!
However.... I do think it is a bit unfair to publish publicly what was intended to be a private communication.
