Thx, the model in the background is exactly what I'm looking for but I cannot connect to
Infografica.com Is this site down ?
Do you know where I could find such models compatible with Truespace 5.1 ?

I've found the origin page of your pic.
But, I can't find where to import such models (which are payable, I guess)

Hi !
I'm looking for vues of the superficial muscles and the skeleton of the rat.
Has anyone got a book with such plates ?
It would be very helpful, I donnot find anything in libraries and all the books I have donnot treat the rat.
On the web, I just find medical stuff that is unuseless for what I want to draw.
Many thanks.

That link i posted isn't really meant to be anatomically correct or anything, it's a metaballs model textured/untextured. Doesn't show actual muscles or anything.

Metareyes is only compatible with max and I don't think that model is for sale, sorry!

I just thought that image might have been useful for reference purposes

The lab manual I have suprisingly doesn't have rats. Just dogfish, lamprey, cat and mudpuppy. But I'm sure there is going to be some disection lab manual around somewhere that details a rat.

Here you go--sorry it's a bit blurry...it's a bad ol' webcam shot. I don't have any musculature reference on the computer, though...and no scanner right now. Hope it helps.

Thanks to all for your replies.
Actually, what I want to do is to make a rat evolve to another form. I already know which appearance it will tend to.
As it is for a comic book project, I want to show nice plates to the publisher to make them understand that all our project is really coherent.
-> wahookah : thx, I'll send a mail to her.
-> Gimbal8 : I was also surprised when I realized that none of the artistic books I can find don't have plates of rats. That's really amazing because this animal is really imposing in human life.
-> Socar MYLES, do you think that you could take a digital photography of this skeleton (is it real or is it such a plastic model ?)
Edit : I just realize that you are the one who owns the site linked by wahookah

It is a real skeleton...I can't take another picture right now, unfortunately--my digital camera is still in the post. However, I got it from boneroom.com, and I'm SURE they've got a better pic of it there.

"Actually, what I want to do is to make a rat evolve to another form."

Quite a few years ago someone made a book about how animals will look long after humans have gone extinct. I remember seeing a picture on TV about the concept of the rat this person did, with his forelimbs reaching out from behind his hind limbs and big bat-like ears. I found the book a couple weekends ago. In the beginning of the book is cool because the person goes into detail about what goes into evolution and what factors contribute to changes in species etc. and it sets up the foundation for his concepts....but they look silly for the most part. Like he/she tried to hard to make them look funky. Fun to look at though.

Could make a scan ? I wouldn't like to follow the same way then someone else. Even if I don't think to be published in USA.

Fabrys: I didn't buy the book. The next time I'm in the book store I'll see if I can get the title or author.

Loved that second link, m00--very useful stuff. I've already seen quite a few rats without their skins on, but it's nice to have something like that for quick reference. Bookmarked it.

I think the book you mentioned is After Man: A Zoology of the Future by Dougal Dixon.

According to Dixon rats will evolve into dogsized carnivores with longer, sharper teeth and longer legs. They'll live in large packs.

Here's the relevant page from the book.

The strange animal Gimbal mentioned is the most famous pic from the book (it has nothing to do with rats it’s ancestors are bats). It definitely doesn’t look like something I’d have as a pet.

Thansk, Huxley has sent me the same pictures. I'm happy because it is far way from what I want to do.
